A low-lift pallet truck is a hydraulic lifting device used to move pallets of goods on a flat surface, with a maximum lift height of 200mm. What is a low-lift pallet truck?
A low-lift pallet truck (in English: low-lift pallet truck or hand pallet jack) is a hand-operated hydraulic lifting device used to lift pallets of goods off the ground by 85-205mm and move them horizontally in warehouses, factories, or in/out of containers.
The core difference from a high-lift pallet truck: a low-lift pallet truck does not lift onto racks - it only lifts enough to separate the pallet from the floor and move it. In return, it has a higher load capacity (up to 5 tons) and is significantly cheaper.
A low-lift pallet truck has 4 main parts:
- Forks: thick steel, 1150-1220mm long, 150mm wide per fork - the part inserted into the pallet. There are 2 types: narrow forks (550mm overall) and wide forks (685mm overall).
- Handle: integrates a 3-mode hydraulic pump - lift (pump), lower, and travel (neutral). Some models have a squeeze brake.
- Hydraulic system: an integrated, weld-free, leak-free hand pump - the cylinder pushes the forks up when pumped, and the release valve allows safe lowering.
- Wheels: rear steering wheels (Nylon/PU 200mm) + 4 front load wheels (80mm) - PU protects epoxy floors, Nylon bears load better.

Common mistakes when buying a low-lift pallet truck
After over 15 years advising factories and warehouses on material handling equipment, ICD Vietnam has noted the 5 most common mistakes that cause businesses to buy the wrong truck or replace it early:
1. Choosing a just-enough capacity with no safety margin
Many warehouses buy a 2.5-ton truck to lift 2.5-ton pallets. The result: the hydraulics degrade after 6-8 months because they always run at 100% capacity. ICD’s rule: actual load should not exceed 80% of the truck’s rated capacity.
2. Buying a cheap no-name truck for VND 2-2.5 million from the market
Unbranded trucks usually use thin steel and poor hydraulic cylinders - often leaking oil or breaking the forks after 3-6 months of heavy use. The repair and replacement cost is higher than buying a genuine Xilin truck from the start.
3. Not checking the overall fork width against the pallet in use
Buying a narrow 550mm truck to lift a 685mm pallet → the forks cannot enter the pallet openings → it has to be returned. Before buying, measure the width between the two pallet openings and choose a truck with an overall width at least 20mm smaller than that gap.
4. Using a low-lift pallet truck on a sloped or uneven floor
A low-lift pallet truck has no self-holding brake when stopped on a slope. A slope over 3 degrees is dangerous - goods can roll during handling. If your warehouse has a sloped ramp, use an electric truck with an electromagnetic brake or a stand-on truck.
5. Skipping periodic maintenance
A Xilin low-lift pallet truck only needs simple maintenance: check the hydraulic oil every 3 months, grease the wheels every 6 months. Skip this and the truck’s lifespan drops from 5-7 years to 2-3 years.

1. How long is the Xilin low-lift pallet truck warranty?

3. Is a 200mm lift height enough to load goods onto a truck?
For containers and trucks with floors 1.1-1.4m high, you need a loading dock ramp so the low-lift pallet truck can get inside. A low-lift pallet truck cannot lift goods from the ground straight onto a truck bed - that is the job of a stand-on truck or an electric forklift.
4. How many hours per day can one worker use a low-lift pallet truck?
We recommend no more than 4-6 hours/day for one person using a hydraulic hand pallet truck continuously. Above that, rotate workers or upgrade to an electric low-lift truck to reduce the worker’s physical load and increase productivity.
5. Can I buy a second-hand Xilin low-lift pallet truck?
Not recommended. Used low-lift pallet trucks have usually had their hydraulic cylinders repaired several times - it is very hard to check their true condition. A new Xilin truck starts from VND 3.2 million; the difference from a used one does not offset the risk and lack of warranty.
