Corrugated plastic, known in Vietnam as Danpla, is PP twinwall sheet – a three-layer polypropylene structure with two flat skins enclosing a hollow parallel-flute core. At 0.90-0.91 g/cm density it is lighter than water yet 4-5 times stiffer per unit weight than solid PP of the same thickness. 3. Reading the two numbers that matter: thickness and surface resistance
Danpla is specified by two figures most buyers overlook. The first is sheet weight (GSM) at a given thickness, not just the millimetre. A 4 mm sheet can be produced at anything from roughly 600 to 1,000 GSM; the lighter sheet is cheaper but flexes and buckles under load, while the heavier sheet holds its shape in a returnable box. Always quote thickness and GSM together – 4 mm / 800 GSM tells a supplier far more than “4 mm” alone, and it is why two “4 mm” boxes can perform completely differently.
The second is surface resistance for ESD work. Genuine anti-static Danpla measures 10^4 to 10^6 ohm – conductive enough to drain static safely but not a dead short. Material outside that band either fails to protect PCBs or behaves unpredictably, which is why ICD issues a surface-resistance test report per batch rather than relying on the black colour alone (black plastic is not automatically ESD). For a returnable-versus-carton decision, the maths is simple: a folding Danpla box costs more upfront than a single-use carton but lasts 200-300 cycles, so on any closed-loop route between two sites it pays back within the first few dozen trips and then keeps saving. Match GSM to load, resistance to your ESD spec, and structure to whether the box travels one way or returns.

Danpla is the middle ground: far cheaper per use than carton, far lighter and cheaper to buy than solid PP, reusable and waterproof. Solid PP only wins where 300+ cycles over 10+ years justify its cost and weight.
