Used plastic pallets are inspected, graded second-hand HDPE/PP pallets that cost 40-60% less than new while still serving internal warehousing and non-food handling. ICD grades them A (80-90% remaining life) and B (60-70%), in 1100×1100 mm and 1200×1000 mm, with dynamic load 800-1,200 kg and static load 2,000-3,000 kg. Choose used pallets when:
- Internal warehouse use: moving stock within a plant where appearance and certification do not matter.
- Tight one-off budget: 40-60% cheaper than new for the same footprint.
- Non-food, non-pharma goods: general industrial loads that do not need an FDA-grade pallet.

2. How ICD grades a used pallet – what to inspect
Grade is not a guess; it comes from a fixed inspection. Five checks decide A versus B:
Feet and runners: no cracks at the deck-to-foot junction, the most common failure point under racking.
Deck flatness: no warp or sag that would tip a load or jam in a rack – check the pallet sits flat on a level floor.
Surface cracks: hairline marks are acceptable on Grade B; through-cracks downgrade or reject.
Material and cold history: HDPE that has not been frozen brittle holds Grade A; PP that has seen sub-zero use drops to B or is rejected for racking.
Entry openings: fork channels undamaged so a truck enters cleanly.
Buy Grade A for light racking and repeated internal trips; buy Grade B for floor stacking and one-off moves. Never put a used pallet under a food or pharma load – those require new virgin HDPE. ICD also buys back your old pallets for recycling.
