Export plastic pallets are lightweight, ISPM-15-exempt pallets for one-way shipping to the EU, US, Japan and Australia. Because they are plastic, they need no heat treatment and no IPPC certificate, saving 1-5 USD per pallet and removing the risk of goods held at the border. 2. ISPM-15: why plastic skips fumigation
ISPM-15 is the international phytosanitary standard for wood packaging – it requires heat treatment or methyl bromide fumigation plus an IPPC stamp, because raw wood can carry pests. Plastic pallets contain no wood, so under the IPPC they are fully exempt: no treatment, no stamp, no certificate.
For a frequent exporter this is not a small detail. Each wood pallet shipment carries a treatment cost of 1-5 USD per pallet and the paperwork risk of a batch held at the border if a stamp is missing or unreadable. Switching to plastic export pallets removes both. For shipments that recur, the saved treatment cost typically offsets the pallet price gap within 12-24 months – and the goods never wait at customs over a pallet certificate.

1. Do export plastic pallets need ISPM-15 treatment?
No. ISPM-15 applies to wood packaging only. Plastic pallets are exempt – no fumigation, no IPPC certificate.
2. Which size for which market?
ISO 1100×1100 for Asia-Pacific, EUR 1200×800 for Europe, GMA 1219×1016 for North America. Match the destination rack and container footprint.
3. Why recycled HDPE for export?
For one-way shipments you do not recover, recycled HDPE keeps cost down while still being ISPM-15 exempt and strong enough for a single trip at 1,000 kg dynamic.
