ICD Vietnam sells PE stretch film for pallet wrapping, made from virgin LLDPE in a 500 mm width. Two 17-micron hand rolls are listed in this catalogue, the blue 2.1 kg MPEXANH at 95,000 VND and the clear 3.8 kg MPE38 at 145,000 VND, with a hand dispenser at 850,000 VND. Stretch film belongs to ICD’s packaging supplies, alongside wrapping machines, slip sheets and dunnage bags. Other hand rolls (2.1-5.0 kg, clear or black) and machine rolls (7-18 kg, 20-30 microns) are quoted on request.

When comparing suppliers, work out the price per kilo of net film rather than per roll. Both are 17-micron hand rolls, but MPEXANH has 1.8 kg of film for 95,000 VND (about 53,000 VND per kg of film), while MPE38 has 3.3 kg for 145,000 VND (about 44,000 VND per kg). A heavy paper core makes a roll look bigger on the scale but gives fewer metres of film, so always ask for the core weight before ordering.
2. What pallet stretch film is used for
Pallet wrap is a stretch film: pulled tight and wound around a load, its layers cling to each other without adhesive and lock the cartons on a pallet into one block, so forklifts, racking and container loading do not shift the goods. The closed wrap also keeps out dust and moisture and shows at a glance whether a load has been opened in transit.

Outside the warehouse, the same film is used to wrap courier parcels, bundle loose items, protect sofas, cabinets and tables during a move, and wrap suitcases before check-in. ICD film carries no adhesive and is 0.017-0.03 mm thick; 0.1-0.5 mm PE sheeting for covers and damp-proofing, and adhesive surface-protection film for glass or stainless steel, are different products that ICD does not sell.
3. Hand roll or machine roll
Hand rolls (2.1-5.0 kg) suit warehouses wrapping a few pallets a day, shops and courier depots. The 2.1 kg roll is light and easy for new staff; 3.8-5.0 kg rolls need changing less often, which saves time where wrapping is steady. Holding a bare roll tires the hands and makes even tension hard, so many stores add a stainless steel stretch film hand dispenser (850,000 VND), which takes 32, 52 and 76 mm cores and rolls 300-500 mm tall.

Machine rolls (7-18 kg, 76 mm core) only run on a machine: they are too heavy to hold and the core fits the machine spindle. Once output reaches dozens of pallets a day, machine wrapping gives even layers, steady tension and lower labour; see the turntable pallet stretch wrapping machines to match a machine to your pallet size and load height.
4. How many microns of stretch film you need
Pallet wrap is only 12-30 microns thick (1 micron is 0.001 mm), so 17-micron film is 0.017 mm. Thicker film handles corners better but gives fewer metres per kilo, so choose by load weight and shape rather than simply going thicker. Buyers used to the US unit can convert with 1 micron ≈ 3.94 gauge (1 gauge is 0.01 mil, and 1 mil is 25.4 microns): 17 microns is about 67 gauge, 20 microns about 79, 23 microns about 91 and 30 microns about 118. A worked selection by load is in stretch film thickness: micron, gauge and how to choose.
| Load on the pallet | Recommended thickness | Matching ICD roll |
|---|---|---|
| Light cartons, square loads, hand wrapping | 17 micron (about 67 gauge) | MPE21, MPE30, MPE38, MPE50, black, blue |
| Cartons, plastic crates, medium-weight bags, machine wrapping | 20-23 micron (about 79-91 gauge) | MPE150 |
| Metal parts, sharp-edged components, heavy loads, machine wrapping | 25-30 micron (about 98-118 gauge) | MPEM extra-tough, thicker MPE150 |
5. Clear, black or blue stretch film

Clear film is the default because labels and barcodes on the cartons stay readable, which speeds up counting at goods-in and goods-out. Black film hides the contents, suiting high-value goods that should stay out of sight in transit and goods that should avoid direct light; its properties and caveats are covered in when to use black PE stretch film. Blue film is used for marking, for example to separate goods by customer, batch or delivery route at a glance.

6. How long a roll is and how many pallets it wraps
Roll length equals the net film weight divided by density, width and thickness. LLDPE has a density of about 0.916-0.940 g/cm³ (Ullmann’s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, Polyethylene); taking 0.92 g/cm³, a 17-micron hand roll with 1.8 kg of film is about 230 m long, 2.5 kg about 320 m and 4.5 kg about 580 m.
A 1200 × 1000 mm pallet with a 1.5 m load, hand-wrapped with 3 base turns, half-width overlap and 1 top turn, needs about 44 m of film. So an MPE30 roll wraps about 7 pallets and an MPE50 roll about 13 pallets when hand-wrapped with almost no stretch. A machine with powered pre-stretch lengthens the film before it reaches the load, so each roll covers several times more pallets. To work it out for your own pallet size, turns and film price, use the PE film weight formula and free calculator.

7. Virgin or recycled stretch film
All ICD film is made from virgin LLDPE blended with additives for toughness and clarity. LLDPE is chosen for stretch wrap because it is tough, stretches well and resists puncture better than ordinary LDPE; how the resin families differ is explained in types of PE stretch film. Recycled film is cheaper, but its quality depends on the scrap source: it is often cloudy, may smell and stretches unevenly.

Three quick checks on delivery:
- Look: virgin film is clear and even in colour; recycled film is cloudy, with specks or streaks.
- Pull: virgin film stretches into an even band; poor film stretches unevenly and breaks early.
- Weigh: subtract the core from the gross weight to see how many kilos of film you actually receive.
8. Where to buy stretch film in Vietnam
ICD keeps stretch film in stock in Hanoi, issues VAT invoices and delivers nationwide; orders for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City usually arrive within 1-3 working days under ICD’s delivery policy. What to check when choosing a supplier is covered in where to buy PE stretch film for wrapping. For a wholesale quote, send the roll code, rolls per month and delivery address; if you are unsure which film fits, describe the load (carton type, weight, height) and we will suggest a thickness.

10. Frequently asked questions about stretch film
1. What is the price of stretch film per roll?
In this catalogue, the 2.1 kg blue hand roll costs 95,000 VND and the 3.8 kg clear roll 145,000 VND. Other hand rolls and the 7-18 kg machine rolls are quoted on request, and volume orders are quoted separately.
2. What is the stretch film price per kg?
Divide the roll price by the net film weight, not the gross weight. On the two ICD hand rolls listed here this works out at about 44,000-53,000 VND per kg of film, so compare the net film weight of each roll before comparing prices.
3. Is pallet wrap the same as stretch film or stretch wrap?
Yes. Pallet wrap, stretch film and stretch wrap all mean the LLDPE film wound tightly around a load; in Vietnamese warehouses it is called màng PE, màng chít or màng căng.
4. What is the difference between stretch film and shrink film?
Stretch film holds a load through the tension applied while wrapping and needs no heat. Shrink film needs heat, from a shrink tunnel or heat gun, to tighten around the product. They do different jobs and do not replace each other.
5. Pallet wrap vs cling film: which should I use?
For pallets and parcels, use LLDPE stretch film, which is tough, stretches well and costs less per metre. Cling film, often PVC, is mainly narrow food wrap for kitchens and supermarkets and is not made for pallet wrapping.
6. Can hand rolls and machine rolls be swapped?
Not really. Machine rolls weigh 7-18 kg and cannot be wrapped by hand, while hand rolls may not fit the machine spindle and run out very quickly on a machine. Choose by how your warehouse wraps from the start.
7. What is 17 micron stretch film in gauge?
About 67 gauge. To convert, divide microns by 0.254 (1 gauge is 0.01 mil and 1 mil is 25.4 microns); 20 microns is about 79 gauge and 23 microns about 91 gauge.
8. Is stretch film food grade?
ICD pallet wrap is meant for the outside of cartons and bags that are already packed. If the film will touch food directly, use a food wrap with its own food-safety declaration.
9. Does ICD sell 30 cm, 45 cm or 1 m wide film?
ICD currently sells 500 mm width for both hand and machine rolls, the most common width for 1100 × 1100 and 1200 × 1000 mm pallets. For other widths in volume, contact us about ordering by batch.
10. Does stretch film have adhesive?
No. Once stretched, the layers cling to each other, so no glue residue is left on cartons or furniture. PE film with adhesive is surface-protection film for glass or stainless steel, a different product.
11. What is the HS code for PE stretch film?
PE stretch film in rolls is usually declared under 3920.10.90, in subheading 3920.10 of Vietnam’s import-export tariff issued with Decree 26/2023/ND-CP. For unusual shipments, classify by the actual description or apply for an advance ruling.
12. How should stretch film be stored?
Keep it dry and cool, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, solvents and oils. Store rolls upright or flat on a shelf and do not stack them too high, so the cores do not crush.
