Buying used plastic pallets the right way means choosing a seller that lets you see and inspect the lot, settling on the right size and condition for where the pallets will be used, and checking a sample when the goods arrive. Used plastic pallets are the fastest way to cut warehouse investment costs, but they are also the easiest item to overpay for if you compare on price alone. Most used pallets on the market come from companies liquidating old pallets when they change production lines, switch packaging or shrink their warehouse, so the quality of each lot varies widely.

The point I remind customers of most is the ability to reorder. A warehouse that uses pallets will need to top up after a few months; if the first lot came from a one-off liquidation, the next lot almost never matches in model and foot size, and mismatched pallets in the same row are awkward for forklifts. A source that sorts by code usually costs a little more than a liquidation yard, but in return you get a uniform lot you can reorder.
Why do businesses choose used plastic pallets?
Businesses choose used plastic pallets because they cost less than new pallets of the same size while keeping the main advantages of plastic: no termites, moisture resistance, easy cleaning and many cycles of use in floor-level and storage positions.
Growing storage and transport demand means each plant needs more pallets. For areas that do not require a rated load, such as raw-material stores or packed finished-goods stores, buying used pallets frees budget for new pallets in the positions that require them: racking, cold stores and export goods. What factors affect the price of used plastic pallets?
The price of used plastic pallets is not fixed; it depends on material, condition, size and quantity, plus the cost of transport to the delivery point. After years of quoting, I see buyers often ask only “how much each?”, yet two lots of the same size can differ considerably because of the factors below. A concrete example is the black used ICD plastic pallet 1200x1100x150 mm.
1. Material and plastic quality
Pallets made from virgin HDPE or PP usually cost more than pallets made from recycled plastic. An intact pallet with no cracks or deformation is worth much more than a damaged one that needs repair. A pallet with only a small crack on the outer edge, not running through a load-bearing rib, drops little in price and still works well for floor-level use.
2. Size and load rating
Popular sizes such as 1100 x 1100 mm or 1200 x 1000 mm are easier to resell and to fit to racking and containers, so they usually have better prices than unusual sizes. 3. Quantity
The bigger the quantity, the better the price per pallet, because loading and transport costs are spread over more pallets. Ask for prices at several quantity levels, for example 50, 100, 300 pallets or per truckload, to find the best-value point.
4. Delivery location
Pallets are bulky, so the receiving warehouse really affects the total cost. A warehouse near a main road, where the truck can reach the door and a forklift is available to unload, has lower delivery cost than one in a narrow lane or that must unload by hand. When comparing prices between sellers, compare prices that include transport to your own warehouse.
5. Condition after use
Before quoting, used pallets are usually graded by condition; buying the right group means you do not pay good-goods prices for a lot mixed with damaged ones.
- Still in good use: no through cracks, intact feet, flat deck, undistorted fork openings; this is the group to buy.
- Lightly damaged: small cracks, chipped edges, surface scratches; buy only for light floor-level use and at a clearly lower price.
- Heavily damaged: broken feet, shattered deck, burnt, badly deformed; do not buy for use, they are worth only as recycling material.
- Contaminated with chemicals that cannot be cleaned: do not buy, because this is hazardous waste, no longer a used pallet.

The process for buying used plastic pallets at ICD Vietnam
Buying used plastic pallets at ICD Vietnam takes four steps: send your requirements, receive a quote with photos of the lot, confirm the order and truck schedule, then receive the goods and check a sample as soon as they are unloaded.
Pallets are checked at the workshop before loading, on five points: no through cracks, intact feet, flat deck, plastic still flexible and fork openings not distorted. Pallets that fail are removed from the delivery lot. On receipt, the customer should check the same five points on a few pallets picked at random, giving priority to those at the bottom of a stack, since that is the position under compression longest during transit.
What should you prepare before calling for a price?
Sending the four groups of information below lets us quote straight away by phone or Zalo, without asking again and again.
- Sizes and quantity per size, for example 300 pallets of 1100 x 1100 mm and 150 pallets of 1200 x 1000 mm.
- How you will use them: floor-level or circulating, how many tiers stacked, hand pallet truck or electric forklift.
- Whether an equivalent size or a different colour is acceptable if the size you need is out of stock.
- The delivery warehouse address, whether the truck can get in, and whether a forklift is on site to unload.
What should a business do if it has used plastic pallets to sell?
ICD Vietnam does not buy back used plastic pallets. A business with surplus pallets should separate those still usable to sell to a used-pallet trader, and send damaged pallets to a licensed plastic recycling facility.
Under Articles 81 and 82 of the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection, a business generating ordinary industrial solid waste must sort it at source, including the group that can be reused or recycled as production material, and must reuse or recycle it itself or hand it to a permitted facility. Damaged plastic pallets fall into this group. Pallets contaminated with hazardous chemicals that cannot be cleaned must instead be managed under the hazardous waste rules.
