Slip Sheets
Kraftliner & HDPE slip sheets - the pallet alternative that saves up to 70% in cost and space.

Slip Sheets - The pallet replacement that saves 60-80% of container space
A slip sheet is a thin underlay of kraftliner paper (0.9-1.5mm thick) or HDPE plastic, placed under the load instead of a pallet and handled by a forklift with a push-pull attachment. Instead of the 140-150mm height of a wooden/plastic pallet, a slip sheet takes only 1-2mm - freeing up 8-12% of container volume, meaning an extra 2-4 tons of goods per sea shipment.
At ICD Vietnam, slip sheets are produced domestically from imported kraftliner, 900-1,500gsm, with or without an HDPE waterproof coating, priced VND 28,000-55,000/sheet (4-9x cheaper than wooden pallets, ISPM-15 fumigation exempt). Request a quote: https://icdvietnam.com.vn/dang-ky-nhan-bao-gia/.

Push-pull forklift attachment: reference price list
| Type | Load capacity | Price (VND) | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic domestic push-pull | 1,200kg | 60-90 million | Low volume, 5-15 containers/month |
| Standard push-pull | 1,500-2,000kg | 120-180 million | 20-50 containers/month (common) |
| Premium Cascade/Bolzoni push-pull | 2,500kg+ | 220-350 million | High volume, ultra-heavy goods |
| Rent at port (no investment) | Per batch | 800k-1.5M/container | Under 5 containers/month, trial |
Push-pull structure: (1) Platen - a flat metal lifting plate 1,000-1,300mm wide replacing the forklift forks; (2) Gripper bar - a hydraulic clamp bar at the front that grips the slip sheet lip; (3) Push plate - a hydraulically driven rear plate that pushes the goods off. Equipment payback: 8-14 months at 20+ containers/month.
When to use and when NOT to use a slip sheet
| USE a slip sheet when | Do NOT use a slip sheet when |
|---|---|
| One-way export (no empties returned) | High-bay warehouse with fixed pallet racking |
| 25-40 day sea voyage to US/EU/Middle East | Goods circulating domestically many times |
| Goods needing maximum container volume (FMCG, garments, wood) | Ultra-heavy goods over 1,500kg/unit |
| Businesses that have/plan a push-pull investment | Goods with an uneven base, with feet/protruding edges |
| Goods to strict ISPM-15 markets (US, Canada, EU, Australia) | Under 5 containers/month, equipment not yet paid back |
| Businesses short on warehouse space due to empty pallet stock | Customers who explicitly require only wooden/plastic pallets |
For cases where a slip sheet is NOT suitable, ICD Vietnam recommends considering alternative pallet solutions: plastic pallets for racking and internal turnover, wooden pallets for ultra-heavy goods, and pressed-sawdust pallets for custom-size export with ISPM-15 exemption.

ICD standard export container combo: 0.9mm waterproof slip sheet (base) + TN01 edge protectors (4 corners) + PE film to secure + air bags to fill the end gap in the container. Total carrier cost about VND 80-120k/unit of goods, 60-70% lower than a traditional wooden-pallet combo.
Frequently asked questions about slip sheets
1. What is a slip sheet and how does it differ from a pallet?
A slip sheet is a thin underlay (0.9-1.5mm) of kraftliner paper or HDPE plastic, placed under the load instead of a pallet. The core difference: a pallet has feet for forklift forks to enter, while a flat slip sheet needs a push-pull attachment to pull and slide it. A slip sheet is 4-9x cheaper, 15-20x lighter, and takes 1mm instead of 150mm of height.
2. What investment is needed to switch to slip sheets?
You need a push-pull attachment fitted to a forklift. Prices: VND 60-90 million (basic 1,200kg), VND 120-180 million (standard 1,500-2,000kg), VND 220-350 million (premium Cascade/Bolzoni). Or rent the service at port for VND 800k-1.5M/container if volume is low. Equipment payback is 8-14 months from 20 containers/month.
3. How much weight does a 0.9mm slip sheet hold?
Maximum static load 1,000kg, maximum dynamic load 900kg. The 1.5mm line rises to 1,500-1,800kg static and 1,200kg dynamic. Note: the load must be evenly distributed, not point-concentrated. Goods with sharp feet/protruding edges can tear the slip sheet even when total weight is low.
4. When is an HDPE waterproof slip sheet mandatory?
Mandatory in 4 cases: (1) sea export voyages over 15 days; (2) passing through high-humidity climates; (3) moisture-sensitive goods (wood, electronics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, food); (4) outdoor/open-roof storage. The non-waterproof type only suits dry domestic use in enclosed warehouses.
5. Are slip sheets ISPM-15 exempt?
Yes, 100% exempt. ISPM-15 only applies to wood packaging (wooden pallets, wooden crates, wooden dunnage). Kraftliner paper and HDPE slip sheets are outside the regulation’s scope, need no fumigation and no IPPC stamp. This saves VND 350,000-500,000/pallet in fumigation fees versus wooden export pallets to the US/EU/Australia.
6. What is the minimum MOQ and the delivery time?
Standard MOQ is 500 sheets/batch for common sizes (1,100×1,100mm, 1,200×1,000mm), delivered in 3-5 days from the Hanoi/HCMC warehouse. Custom sizes have an MOQ of 2,000 sheets, 7-10 day production. Orders under 500 sheets are still accepted but charged at retail (+15-20%). Orders from 5,000 sheets get a separate discount.
7. How many times can a slip sheet be reused?
Ordinary kraftliner paper slip sheets: 1 time, since the push-pull process wears the lip. Slip sheets with a thick HDPE layer: 2-3 times under light operation. Solid HDPE/PP plastic slip sheets: 5-10 times but at 3-5x the price of the paper line. Recommendation: calculate the economics on single use.
8. What slip sheet sizes are available?
ICD Vietnam standard sizes: 1,100×1,100mm (EU/US standard), 1,200×1,000mm (ISO 40HC container standard), 1,200×1,200mm (Australian standard), 1,100×1,300mm (common custom). The lip is 75-100mm on 1 or 2 edges depending on the push-pull process. Custom to requirement is feasible from an MOQ of 2,000 sheets.
9. Do ICD Vietnam slip sheets have international certification?
Yes. ICD Vietnam provides full ASTM D6344 test reports (the international slip sheet standard), CO/CQ, FSC for imported kraftliner, and MSDS for the HDPE layer. Technical documents accompany every export shipment, supporting customs procedures and foreign customer requirements.
10. Can slip sheets be recycled?
Yes. Kraftliner paper slip sheets are 100% recyclable like ordinary cardboard, at the destination. Slip sheets with an HDPE layer need (mechanical) delamination before paper recycling. The single-use + destination-recycling characteristic lets exporters fully eliminate reverse-logistics cost (returning empty pallets) - saving USD 200-400/container.
