Industrial plastic crate prices at ICD Viet Nam range from 45,000 VND for a small parts tray to 2,500,000 VND for a 220L lidded bin, depending on size, material, crate type, accessories and order quantity. This guide gives the full reference price tables for every line, the five factors that set the price, virgin versus recycled plastic compared over a lifecycle, and five ways to buy wholesale at the lowest cost.
After quoting hundreds of businesses each year, I have learned that many buyers compare only price per unit and overlook a more important figure: total cost of ownership. A recycled-plastic crate at 70,000 VND that fails after one year costs 350,000 VND over five years, while a virgin-plastic crate at 100,000 VND lasts 5-7 years and saves more than 60%.

Five factors that set the price of a plastic crate
Why does a single category called “plastic crate” span from 25,000 VND to 2,500,000 VND? Understanding these five factors tells you what you are paying for, and where you can save without sacrificing quality.
- Factor 1 - Size and capacity: The biggest driver, accounting for 50-60% of the price structure. A larger crate uses more plastic and costs more. The relationship is not linear: a 220L bin is not twice the price of a 120L bin but typically 3-4 times more, because the mould is larger, the walls thicker, and fewer makers have the capacity to produce it.
- Factor 2 - Plastic material: Virgin plastic (PP or HDPE) costs 15-20% more than recycled. Within the virgin group, HDPE costs roughly 5-10% more than PP for its better chemical and cold resistance. Imported resin prices track world crude oil; in early 2026, HDPE resin rose about 8% versus late 2025 on supply-chain pressure.
- Factor 3 - Crate type: At the same size, a solid-wall crate costs 10-15% more than an open-mesh one because it uses more plastic. A lidded bin costs 20-30% more than a lidless one for the extra lid mould and gasket. An ESD parts tray costs 50-80% more than a standard tray for the anti-static additive.
- Factor 4 - Accessories: Wheels add 30,000-50,000 VND per set of five. A separate lid adds 20-40% of the crate price. Internal dividers, safety latches and watertight gaskets each add 10-20% to the base price.
- Factor 5 - Order quantity: Prices drop clearly with volume. At ICD Viet Nam the typical discount tiers are: 100-499 units (list price), 500-999 units (5-8% off), over 1,000 units (10-15% off, further negotiable). Project orders (new factories, first-time warehouse setups) usually get the best price.
Virgin versus recycled plastic: a price comparison
This is the question I get in 9 out of 10 consultations: how much cheaper is recycled plastic, and is it worth it? The answer depends on the use case and how you calculate cost.
| Criterion | Virgin plastic | Recycled plastic |
|---|---|---|
| Initial purchase price | 100% (list price) | 15-20% cheaper |
| Average lifespan | 5-10 years | 2-4 years |
| 5-year cost (with replacement) | 100,000 VND x 1 = 100,000 VND | 80,000 VND x 2 = 160,000 VND |
| Food safety | Compliant | Not compliant |
| Colour | Bright, uniform | Dull, uneven |
| Impact resistance | Good - tough and flexible | Poor - brittle, cracks easily |
| Best for | All sectors, especially food, pharma, electronics | Ordinary warehousing, short-term internal logistics |
Bottom line: recycled plastic only truly saves money for short-term use (under two years), where no industry standard applies and appearance does not matter. In every other case, virgin plastic is cheaper over the lifecycle.
Five ways to buy plastic crates wholesale at the lowest cost
From serving hundreds of B2B businesses, here are five buying strategies that cut 10-25% off cost without sacrificing quality.
- Way 1 - Consolidate orders: Instead of 200 units a month, batch 600 units a quarter. Larger volumes reach higher discount tiers. At ICD Viet Nam, orders from 500 units get 5-8% off and from 1,000 units get 10-15% off.
- Way 2 - Buy in the low season: Resin prices are usually lowest in Q1 (January-March) when demand falls after Tet, and highest in Q3-Q4 as factories build year-end stock. If you are not in a hurry, ordering in Q1 can save 5-8% versus Q4.
- Way 3 - Choose standard sizes: The 610 x 420 mm footprint is the standard with the most competing makers and the best price. Special (custom) sizes need a dedicated mould and cost 30-50% more.
- Way 4 - Drop unnecessary accessories: Wheels add 30,000-50,000 VND per set; if the crate only sits on a shelf, skip them. A lid adds 20-40%; if you do not need absolute dust protection, dropping the lid saves significantly at volume.
- Way 5 - Buy direct from the manufacturer: Going through intermediaries costs 10-20% more. ICD Viet Nam both manufactures and distributes directly, with no middlemen, for the best factory-gate price in the northern market.

Frequently asked questions about plastic crate prices
1. Do plastic crate prices include VAT?
At ICD Viet Nam, the listed price already includes 8% VAT (the current rate for industrial plastic products). Some other suppliers quote prices excluding VAT, so when comparing across vendors, always ask whether the figure includes VAT for an accurate comparison. ICD Viet Nam issues full VAT invoices for every order.
2. Why do plastic crate prices change over time?
The main raw material (HDPE and PP resin) is a petrochemical, so its price depends on world crude oil and the international supply chain. When oil rises, resin rises, pushing up the finished price. The USD/VND exchange rate also matters because most resin is imported from the Middle East, South Korea and Thailand.
3. How many units qualify for the wholesale price?
At ICD Viet Nam, orders of 100 units or more already get the wholesale price. Better discount tiers apply at 500 and 1,000 units. For large project orders (new factory setup, supplying a supermarket chain), contact us directly for a dedicated project quote.
4. Is it worth buying used plastic crates to save money?
It depends on the purpose. Used (second-hand) crates cost only 30-50% of new ones, suitable for temporary needs or where appearance does not matter. Check carefully: cracks in the walls, whether the stacking grooves still align, and whether the base sags. ICD Viet Nam offers a buy-back and clearance service for used crates that have passed quality inspection.
5. Which is cheaper over time, virgin or recycled plastic?
Virgin plastic. Although it costs 15-20% more upfront, it lasts 5-10 years versus 2-4 years for recycled, so over a 5-year lifecycle it works out more than 60% cheaper once replacement cost is included.
