Stretch Wrapper Maintenance Guide: Schedule and How to Do It

June 6, 2026 — Lê Văn Thăng

Stretch wrapper maintenance schedule: weekly (5-10 min), monthly (20-30 min), 6-monthly (1-2 h). Key checks, parts and warning signs.

A pallet stretch wrapper is mechanically simple, but skipping routine maintenance still cuts its service life from 10-plus years down to 3-5 years and invites sudden breakdowns during peak hours. Thirty minutes of monthly lubrication prevents 2-3 days of unplanned downtime. This guide gives a concrete maintenance schedule, the checks for each interval, the parts to replace, and the warning signs that mean you must call a technician.

Why correct maintenance matters

A stretch wrapper runs continuously in a warehouse environment of dust, vibration and heavy load. No component is immune to wear over time. Routine maintenance is not a cost, it is an investment: a short monthly lubrication pass keeps the drive belt, film carriage and rollers working and avoids the preventable failures that stop a line for days.

To understand each part that needs servicing, see the detailed breakdown of the structure and operating principle of a pallet stretch wrapper.

Maintenance schedule at a glance

Interval Time needed Main tasks
Weekly (every 40-50 operating hours) 5-10 minutes Clean turntable, mast and rollers; visually check the drive belt; check turntable mounting bolts
Monthly (every 200 operating hours) 20-30 minutes Lubricate carriage slide and roller pivots; check motor temperature; check the inverter and electrical connections
6-monthly 1-2 hours Measure belt tension; check rollers and bearings; test the control panel; torque all bolts

Weekly maintenance (5-10 minutes per week)

At the end of each working week, or after 40-50 operating hours:

Clean. Wipe dust and stray PE film off the turntable, the film mast and the rollers. Dust on the rollers changes their friction and alters film tension. Inspect the drive belt by eye. Look for cracks, frayed edges or a loose, slack run. Check the mounting bolts that hold the turntable to the frame; continuous vibration can loosen them within a few weeks if they are never checked.

Monthly maintenance (20-30 minutes per month)

At the end of the month, or after 200 operating hours:

Lubricate. Apply industrial grease (NLGI #2) to the film carriage slide rail, and oil the pivot of the tension-adjustment roller. Check the motor. Feel the motor housing after 30 minutes of running; if it is too hot to keep your hand on (roughly 60-70 C or higher), check that the cooling fan is not clogged with dust. Check the inverter. Look for fault codes on the inverter display and clean dust from its ventilation slots. Check electrical connections. Open the control cabinet and check that terminals are not loose and that no wire insulation is damaged.

6-monthly maintenance (1-2 hours)

A full inspection needs someone with electro-mechanical skills, or call the ICD technical team:

Drive belt. Measure tension by pressing a finger into the middle of the belt; reasonable deflection is 10-15 mm. Replace the belt if you see cracks or an abnormally rough surface. Rollers. Turn each roller by hand to spot one that turns stiffly (failing bearing) or makes unusual noise. Control panel. Test every button, check the indicator lights, and recalibrate any position sensor. Bolts and nuts. Use a wrench to check and retighten everything to the specified torque.

Parts to replace on a schedule

Part Replacement cycle Signs it needs replacing
Drive belt 2-3 years Cracks, frayed edges, slipping
Roller bearings 3-5 years Noise, stiff rotation
Film-mast wiring As needed Damaged insulation, internal breaks
Position sensor On failure Machine fails to stop in the right position
Inverter 8-12 years Frequent fault codes

Warning signs: call a technician immediately

Do not try to fix the following yourself, call ICD technical support the same day: the turntable vibrates abnormally even with the pallet centred correctly; the inverter throws fault codes repeatedly; the motor makes a strange noise (especially metallic knocking); the control panel stops responding; or there is a burnt-electrical smell from the control cabinet.

ICD warranty and technical support

ICD Viet Nam commits to a 2-year warranty on all models, same-day technical support in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and common spare parts kept in stock at the ICD warehouse, with no waiting on imports. The T1650F and other ICD models are built with standard parts that are easy to source and replace in Vietnam.

Frequently asked questions about stretch wrapper maintenance

1. How often should I maintain a stretch wrapper?

On three intervals: a weekly clean and visual check (5-10 minutes, or every 40-50 operating hours), a monthly lubrication and electrical check (20-30 minutes, or every 200 hours), and a full 6-monthly inspection (1-2 hours).

2. What is the most important monthly task?

Lubrication. Apply NLGI #2 grease to the film carriage slide rail and oil the tension-roller pivot, then check the motor temperature and the inverter for fault codes. This is what keeps the machine running smoothly between major services.

3. How do I know if the drive belt needs replacing?

Press a finger into the middle of the belt: reasonable deflection is 10-15 mm. Replace it if it deflects too far, if you see cracks or frayed edges, or if its surface is abnormally rough. A typical drive belt lasts 2-3 years.

4. How long does a well-maintained stretch wrapper last?

Eight to twelve years with correct routine maintenance. Skipping maintenance typically cuts that to 3-5 years and causes sudden breakdowns. The inverter usually lasts 8-12 years and roller bearings 3-5 years.

5. When must I stop the machine and call a technician?

Stop and call the same day if the turntable vibrates abnormally with a centred pallet, the inverter throws repeated fault codes, the motor makes metallic knocking, the control panel stops responding, or there is a burnt-electrical smell from the cabinet.

6. Does ICD provide spare parts and technical support?

Yes. ICD keeps common spare parts in stock with no import wait, offers same-day technical support in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and backs every model with a 2-year warranty.
