Closed deck plastic pallets have a flat, sealed top surface with no gaps, the right choice for food, pharma, powder and small-carton loads that must not fall through or trap debris. ICD moulds them in virgin HDPE at 1100×1100 mm and 1200×1000 mm, with dynamic load 1,500 kg, static load 4,000 kg and beam-rack load 1,000 kg. Choose closed deck pallets when:
- Food, beverage and pharma: a smooth sealed deck is easy to sanitise and meets HACCP/GMP audit requirements in virgin HDPE.
- Powder, granules and small cartons: nothing sags into or falls through the top.
- Hygienic, debris-free handling: no open ribs to collect dust, spills or product residue.

2. Why food and pharma audits require closed deck virgin HDPE
A HACCP or GMP audit looks for two things in a pallet: a surface that can be cleaned to a verifiable standard, and a material with a traceable, food-safe origin. A closed deck answers the first – no open ribs to harbour residue, and a smooth top that wipes and sanitises fully. Virgin HDPE answers the second – it is FDA-grade with a consistent, declarable raw material.
Recycled HDPE fails this test: its feedstock is mixed collected packaging, so it cannot be certified food-safe and auditors reject it in production and packing areas. When buying for a food or pharma plant, ask the supplier for a Certificate of Conformance or material origin declaration – ICD provides one for the virgin HDPE closed deck line.

4. Frequently asked questions
1. Are closed deck pallets food-grade?
In virgin HDPE, yes – FDA-grade and accepted under HACCP and GMP. Ask for a Certificate of Conformance. Recycled HDPE is not guaranteed and is rejected by audits.
2. Closed deck or open deck for cold storage?
Both work in virgin HDPE down to -40C. Choose closed deck for dry, powder or small goods; open deck where you need drainage and air flow.
3. What racking load is safe?
1,000 kg on a 2-bar beam rack (keep a 20% margin). On shelving the full 4,000 kg static applies.
4. Can the closed top be pressure-washed?
Yes – the smooth surface sanitises easily, with no ribs to trap residue.
