Xilin BF-III vs DF-III Pallet Jack: Which Model Is Right for You

June 6, 2026 — Lê Văn Thăng

BF-III handles 2-3 tonne loads on flat floors. DF-III handles 5 tonnes on rough surfaces. Spec tables, prices, and a quick decision framework inside.

BF-III and DF-III are the two Xilin low-lift pallet jacks asked about most at ICD. Many buyers assume DF-III is simply an upgraded BF-III, but the two models target different needs: BF-III handles 2-3 tonne daily loads, while DF-III handles 5-tonne heavy loads and rough floors. Choosing the wrong one means paying for capacity you do not need, or overloading a unit that wears out fast. This article compares both models with full spec tables, current prices, and a two-question decision framework.

When to choose BF-III

Daily loads of 2-3 tonnes

BF-III is engineered for loads of 2-3 tonnes, covering the vast majority of consumer goods, logistics warehouse, and container handling needs. Its lightweight frame, smooth pump action, and compact size make it fast to operate in tight spaces. This is the best-selling model for standard warehouse operations.

Flat floors and clean warehouses

BF-III's polyurethane wheels roll quietly on flat, epoxy-coated floors without leaving marks. It suits food warehouses, clean rooms, and polished floors. The BF-III 2.5T with narrow forks also fits into small-opening pallets.

Budget-optimised choice

BF-III starts at VND 3,500,000 (2.5T narrow forks) and goes up to VND 5,100,000 (3T wide forks), well below DF-III pricing. If your heaviest load never exceeds 3 tonnes, BF-III is the most economical option.

When to choose DF-III

Heavy loads up to 5 tonnes

DF-III is rated for 5,000 kg - nearly double BF-III's capacity. It handles super-heavy pallets: steel, concrete, bricks, machinery, and port cargo. The frame and hydraulic cylinder are reinforced so they do not deform under high load.

Rough or uneven floors

DF-III's nylon or hard PU wheels roll reliably on bare concrete, port surfaces, and construction warehouses. The longer 1,220 mm forks give more stable support under large pallets. This is the model for harsh environments where BF-III would wear out quickly.

Frequent heavy-load cycles

If each shift involves loads near the rated capacity, DF-III lasts longer because it is designed for sustained heavy-duty use. Using BF-III regularly at 4-5 tonnes will overload it, leading to premature cylinder and seal failure.

Structural differences between BF-III and DF-III

BF and DF are not successive generations of the same design - they denote different frame types and pump assemblies. Understanding the structure helps you choose correctly and simplifies maintenance.

BF-III: single frame, easy to service

BF-III uses a compact single-frame design with threaded pump components that are straightforward to disassemble and replace. It suits standard 2-3 tonne loads in everyday warehouse environments.

DF-III: reinforced dual frame

DF-III uses a reinforced dual frame with thicker forks and a heavier cylinder, which is why it can handle 5 tonnes and rough floors without deforming - unlike BF-III, which fatigues quickly when used for continuous heavy loads.

Full technical specifications

The figures below follow standard low-lift pallet jack measurements and help you match the model to your pallet type and aisle width.

Parameter BF-III (2-3 tonne) DF-III (5 tonne)
Minimum fork lowered height 85 mm 85 mm
Maximum fork raised height 195 mm 195 mm
Fork thickness 3.5 mm 6 mm
Fork blade width 160 mm 160 mm
Fork spread 230 mm (narrow) / 685 mm (wide) 230 mm (narrow) / 685 mm (wide)
Load / steer wheels Polyurethane Nylon or hard PU
Steer wheel turning angle 115 degrees 115 degrees

The difference in fork thickness - 3.5 mm versus 6 mm - is the clearest evidence of DF-III's reinforced construction. The 85 mm lowered height allows the forks to slide under most standard-height pallets.

Choosing fork width to match your pallet

Both BF-III and DF-III are available in narrow and wide fork versions. Select based on your actual pallet dimensions.

Fork width Fork spread (outer) Suitable pallet
Narrow forks ~540-550 mm total Small pallets 1000x1000, 1100x800 mm; narrow aisles
Wide forks 685 mm 685 mm Large pallets 1100x1100, 1100x1200 mm; oversized loads

Quick decision framework

Answer two questions to choose the right model.

What is the heaviest single load in kg?

Under 3 tonnes: choose BF-III. 4-5 tonnes: choose DF-III. Always size by the heaviest load you will ever handle, not the average, so the jack is never overloaded on a heavy day.

What is the warehouse floor like?

Flat, epoxy-coated, clean warehouse: choose BF-III with PU wheels. Rough, bare concrete, port surface: choose DF-III with hard wheels. Using the wrong wheel type causes sluggish operation, fast wheel wear, or surface scratching.

Frequently asked questions about BF-III and DF-III

1. What is the fundamental difference between BF-III and DF-III?

BF-III handles 2-3 tonne loads on flat floors for everyday use at a lower price. DF-III handles 5-tonne loads on rough surfaces with a reinforced frame. The difference is in rated capacity and structural strength for heavy environments - DF-III is not simply an upgraded BF-III.

2. My heaviest load is 3.5 tonnes. Which model should I choose?

Choose DF-III rated at 5 tonnes. BF-III has a maximum rated capacity of 3 tonnes; running it at 3.5 tonnes is an overload that causes premature cylinder and seal failure. Always choose a model whose rated capacity exceeds the actual load.

3. Can BF-III be used on rough bare-concrete floors?

It can, but it is not optimal. BF-III's PU wheels are designed for flat surfaces. For rough concrete or port surfaces, DF-III with hard wheels rolls more easily and the wheels last much longer.

4. How much more does DF-III cost compared to BF-III?

BF-III ranges from VND 3,500,000 to VND 5,100,000 depending on capacity and fork width. DF-III 5T is around VND 7,800,000. DF-III costs more because of its reinforced frame and higher load rating. If you do not need capacity above 3 tonnes, BF-III gives better value.

5. What warranty do both models carry?

Both BF-III and DF-III purchased through ICD carry a 2-year manufacturer warranty from Xilin, with replacement parts in stock and technical support available.

6. What do BF and DF stand for in the model name?

BF denotes a single-frame design with a threaded pump assembly that is easy to disassemble and service, rated for 2-3 tonnes. DF denotes a reinforced dual-frame design with thicker forks and a heavier cylinder, rated for 5 tonnes and rough surfaces. The letters describe structural types, not product generations.

7. How low can the forks drop to enter a pallet?

Both BF-III and DF-III lower to approximately 85 mm - enough to slide under most standard pallets. When pumped, the forks raise to 195 mm, lifting the pallet clear of the floor for movement.
