Lidded plastic baskets are light, vented baskets with a fitted lid – lighter and more open than an industrial crate, made for retail display, light storage, laundry, household goods and breathable produce that still needs covering. 2. Basket or crate – matching weight to duty
A basket and a crate look similar but are built for different duties. A lidded basket is light, open and easy to carry, made for retail display, household storage and light goods where appearance and handling ease matter; it is not built to carry heavy loads or stack high under weight. An industrial lidded crate is heavier-walled, rated to 50-55 kg with a 250-280 kg stack load, made to stack on pallets and survive warehouse cycles.
Pick by the load and the setting: choose a basket for shop floors, light produce display and home/office storage; choose a crate for warehouse, transit and palletised stacking. Using a basket where a crate belongs leads to cracked walls and crushed stacks; using a crate for light retail wastes money and looks utilitarian. The lid on either keeps dust off and lets you stack lightly without spilling.
