What Is Danpla Corrugated Plastic Sheet? Construction, Types and Applications

June 11, 2026 — Lê Văn Thăng

Danpla is a hollow-core PP sheet: lightweight, waterproof, reusable 50-100 times. Learn construction, types (standard, ESD, UV), specs and applications.

What Is Danpla Corrugated Plastic Sheet? Construction, Types and Applications

Danpla is a corrugated polypropylene (PP) sheet with a hollow-core structure - two flat face layers sandwiching a fluted core that creates parallel channels along the sheet length. Standard sheet size is 1220 x 2440 mm. It is lighter than solid plastic by a factor of 3 to 5, fully waterproof, and reusable 50 to 100 times, making it a cost-effective replacement for single-use corrugated cardboard in industrial packaging and logistics.

Construction of Danpla Corrugated Plastic Sheet

Looking at a cross-section, a Danpla sheet has three distinct components: an upper face layer, a vertical fluted core, and a lower face layer. The entire structure is extruded as a single piece from PP resin - no adhesive, no lamination like corrugated cardboard.

The fluted core forms hollow channels running parallel along the sheet length. These channels are the key to the material: they reduce the amount of plastic used (lowering weight) while the flute walls still distribute compressive and bending forces effectively. The principle is identical to an I-beam in structural steel - less material without sacrificing rigidity.

The sheet surface is smooth and sealed, waterproof and non-absorbent. This is the fundamental difference from cardboard - corrugated cardboard softens and loses stiffness immediately upon contact with moisture, while Danpla retains its properties even when submerged in water.

Standard Technical Specifications

Key parameters to understand when purchasing Danpla corrugated plastic sheet:

Parameter Standard value Notes
Sheet size 1220 x 2440 mm Custom cutting available, tolerance plus/minus 3 mm
Thickness 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 mm 4 mm is the most widely used
Weight 300-1000 g/m2 Increases with thickness
Temperature resistance -10 degrees C to +120 degrees C Virgin PP resin
Compressive strength 0.5 - 2.0 kN/m2 Varies by thickness and flute density
Colours Blue, white, black, red, yellow, clear Black is typically ESD grade

Weight by thickness: 2 mm sheet approximately 300-350 g/m2, 3 mm approximately 450-550 g/m2, 4 mm approximately 600-700 g/m2, 5 mm approximately 800-1000 g/m2. Actual weight tolerance is plus/minus 5% depending on the manufacturer.

Types of Danpla Corrugated Plastic Sheet

There are three main product lines on the market, differentiated by additional functional properties:

Standard PP Danpla: Made from virgin or recycled PP resin with no special additives. Available in multiple colours: blue, white, red, yellow, green. Used for the majority of general applications - floor lining, dividers, signage, packaging boxes. This is the most common and lowest-cost grade.

ESD Danpla (electrostatic discharge protection): Carbon additives are incorporated before extrusion to create conductive or dissipative properties. Surface resistance reaches 10 to the power of 4 to 10 to the power of 11 ohms per IEC 61340-5-1. The characteristic colour is black. Mandatory in EPA (electrostatic protected area) zones in electronics manufacturing facilities. Price is 40-80% higher than standard Danpla.

UV-resistant Danpla: UV-absorbing additives are added to prevent the PP from becoming brittle and fading in sunlight. Used for outdoor applications: agricultural greenhouses, construction site sheeting, outdoor signage. Without UV protection, a PP sheet can become brittle and crack within 6-12 months of direct sun exposure.

What Is Danpla Corrugated Plastic Sheet Used For?

Danpla has a very broad application range because of its lightweight, rigid, waterproof combination of properties:

Packaging and transport: Making boxes, trays and component holders. Danpla boxes are reusable 50-100 times in place of single-use cardboard - payback on the initial investment typically occurs within 6-12 months. Danpla plastic boxes can be manufactured to custom sizes and shapes on request.

Liners and dividers: Interlayer sheets between load layers on pallets, cell dividers inside boxes, temporary warehouse floor protection. Lighter than plywood, reusable longer than cardboard, easier to clean than both.

Signage and printing: Standees, event backdrops, internal notice boards. The smooth surface is suitable for UV printing. Lightweight and easy to mount and remove.

Construction and interior: Temporary office partitions, construction site screens, protective sheeting for granite floor surfaces during finishing work.

Danpla vs Cardboard vs Plywood: Direct Comparison

These three materials are frequently evaluated as alternatives to each other in liner and divider applications. The table below provides a direct comparison to support selection decisions:

Criterion Corrugated cardboard Plywood Danpla PP
Number of uses 1-3 times 10-30 times 50-100 times
Water resistance Poor Moderate Good
Weight Light Heavy Light
Cleaning Difficult Moderate Easy - wipes clean with water
ESD protection No No Yes (ESD grade)
Initial cost Lowest Moderate Higher than cardboard
Cost per use Highest Moderate Lowest

Danpla loses to cardboard on initial purchase cost, but wins outright on long-term cost per use. For businesses with high-volume, continuous cycling operations, Danpla typically achieves payback within 3-6 months compared with using cardboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Danpla the same as hollow-core PP sheet?

Yes. These are two names for the same material. “Danpla” is the trade name widely used in Vietnam, while “hollow-core PP sheet” or “corrugated PP sheet” is the technical description of the structure. In international markets the same product is also sold under names such as coroplast, corflute, and corrugated PP sheet.

2. Can Danpla be printed on?

Yes, but appropriate printing technology is required. The PP surface does not absorb standard water-based inks, so UV ink or corona discharge surface treatment before printing is needed. Direct UV printing produces sharp, durable results and is widely used for producing signage and standees from Danpla.

3. Which thickness should I choose for my application?

As a general guide: 2-3 mm for light packaging, printing and small dividers; 4 mm for standard boxes and dividers - this is the most commonly used thickness; 5 mm and above when high load-bearing capacity is required or when the sheet will be used as a support platform. When in doubt, 4 mm is the safe choice for most industrial applications. See the Danpla sheet size selection guide for more precise guidance.
