A used hand pallet truck is a smart way to cut handling-equipment spend by 40-60% versus buying new, provided the pump, frame and wheels are properly inspected first. 2. The ICD used-truck inspection checklist

A used pallet truck is only a bargain if it is mechanically sound. ICD inspects every unit against a fixed checklist before resale, and these are the same points to verify yourself before buying anywhere.

Hydraulic pump and piston – the heart of the truck. Lift a load to full height and leave it for 10 minutes: a sound pump holds it with no sag. Inspect the piston rod for a smooth hard-chrome finish; pitting or scoring tells you the seals will leak soon. Any oil film around the cylinder is a warning sign.

Frame and forks – sight down each fork for bend or twist, and check the welds at the fork-to-frame joint for cracks. On Japanese imports the steel is noticeably thicker and the frame more rigid – that heavier old-grade steel is exactly what experienced buyers pay for.

Wheels and bearings – flat-spotted or cracked PU/nylon wheels are cheap to replace but reveal hard prior use; spin each wheel for free, quiet rotation. The skill is reading component wear so you do not buy one that is already worn out.” Buy on the pump and the steel, not on cosmetic paint.
