Low-Profile Hand Pallet Trucks

Author: Le Van Thang, CEO of ICD Vietnam – 15 years specifying pallet jacks.

A low-profile hand pallet truck is the most basic yet indispensable handling tool in any supply chain – manual hydraulic power lifts a loaded pallet about 200 mm off the floor so it can be moved anywhere in the warehouse. ICD distributes Xilin low-profile trucks at 2, 2.5, 3 and 5 tonne, in wide-fork (685 mm overall) and narrow-fork (550 mm) versions, with a 180-210 degree steering arc for a tight turning radius. Robot-welded high-strength steel, hard-chrome piston, genuine 2-year warranty. Part of the hand pallet truck range; pair it with plastic pallets.

Choose a low-profile hand pallet truck when:

  • Horizontal pallet transport: the cheapest, most reliable way to move 2-5 tonne pallets.
  • Tight warehouse aisles: the 180-210 degree steer gives a very small turning radius.
  • Loading and unloading trucks: ultra-low 85 mm forks (heavy-duty models) slide into containers easily.

2. Match fork width to your pallet – the choice most buyers get wrong

The single decision that determines whether a hand truck actually fits your warehouse is fork width versus pallet entry, and it is the choice buyers most often get wrong. Forks too wide will not enter a narrow-aperture pallet; forks too narrow leave the load unstable and overload the fork tips.

Wide forks (685 mm overall) suit standard two-way and four-way pallets where the fork pockets are full width – the common ISO 1200×1000 and GMA 48×40 inch footprints. Narrow forks (550 mm overall) are for pallets with narrow stringers or block pallets with tighter apertures, including many EUR/EPAL pallets where you enter between the inner blocks. Before buying, measure your pallet’s fork-pocket spacing, not just its outer size: a 1200×1000 plastic pallet and a EUR pallet can share an outer footprint but need different fork widths. For mixed pallet fleets, the safest default is the wide fork on standard pallets plus a dedicated narrow-fork truck for the EUR stock – trying to force one width onto every pallet type is what causes dropped loads and bent forks.
