PE film prices on the market in 2026 vary quite widely: for the same PE stretch film you may see prices from about VND 45,000/kg to 75,000/kg depending on the supplier. The gap is not random: the resin, the production method, the roll core weight and the number of distribution tiers all directly affect the price you pay.
Having worked in packaging supplies at ICD Vietnam since 2011, I have seen many buyers pick the wrong cheap PE film and then pay more through film that tears, clings poorly or has to be bought again. This article gives a reference price table, shows how to convert a roll price into the price per kilogram of real film, how to calculate total cost, and what to check before placing an order.

The last two rows of the table (greenhouse film and HDPE waterproofing film) are not pallet wrap: single-layer greenhouse film is typically about 0.15 mm (6 mil) thick according to Virginia Cooperative Extension guidance, while waterproofing HDPE is many times thicker and priced per m². For a warehouse, the two rows that matter are hand rolls and machine rolls.

Price per roll: why convert to price per kilogram of real film?
When you buy by the roll, the true price of film is the price of the whole roll divided by the net weight of film, not by the weight of the whole roll. The reason is that the weight printed on the roll includes the paper core inside; the heavier the core, the less film you actually pay for.
A concrete example: two rolls both labeled “2.0kg”, but roll A has a 200 g core so it holds 1.8 kg of film, while roll B has a 400 g core and holds only 1.6 kg, so you lose another 200 g of PE film per roll even though the list price is the same. On an order of 500 rolls, that equals 100 kg of PE film that “evaporates” relative to what you paid.
A heavy core is not always a trick: machine-wrap rolls need a rigid core to take the pull of the pre-stretch unit, so a core of 1 kg or more is normal. What matters is that the supplier states the core weight so you can convert it yourself. The table below is calculated from the specifications published on the ICD Vietnam PE film product pages:
| Roll code | Whole roll | Core | Net film | Core share | Estimated length |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ICD-MPE21 | 2.1 kg | 0.3 kg | 1.8 kg | 14% | ≈230 m |
| Hand roll 2.4 kg | 2.4 kg | 0.5 kg | 1.9 kg | 21% | ≈240 m |
| ICD-MPE30 | 3.0 kg | 0.5 kg | 2.5 kg | 17% | ≈320 m |
| ICD-MPE38 | 3.8 kg | 0.5 kg | 3.3 kg | 13% | ≈420 m |
| ICD-MPE40 | 4.0 kg | 0.5 kg | 3.5 kg | 12% | ≈450 m |
| ICD-MPE50 | 5.0 kg | 0.5 kg | 4.5 kg | 10% | ≈580 m |
| ICD-MPE150 (machine roll) | 15.0 kg | 1.0 kg | 14.0 kg | 7% | ≈1,010-1,520 m (20-30 micron) |
The lengths in the table are estimated with the formula: length (m) = film weight (kg) ÷ [width (m) × thickness (m) × density (kg/m³)]. LLDPE film has a density of about 0.917-0.930 g/cm³ according to the British Plastics Federation, and this article uses 0.92 g/cm³; at 500 mm wide and 17 microns thick, each kilogram of film is about 128 m long. An ICD-MPE30 roll holds 2.5 kg of film, so it is about 320 m long, and an MPE21 roll about 230 m.
Factors that affect PE film prices
PE film prices are set mainly by four factors: resin type, thickness, production method and purchase quantity. Understanding how prices are built helps you negotiate better and avoid being caught out on bulk orders.
Resin (LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE)
The three common polyethylenes are made differently and perform differently, which leads to different prices. LDPE (low-density PE) is soft and easy to process, suited to ordinary wrap film and slow hand wrapping.
LLDPE (linear low-density PE) is stronger in tension and more puncture resistant than LDPE, so it is the standard material for pallet stretch film and for film used on automatic stretch wrapping machines. According to Wikipedia, most stretch film has an elongation at break of about 500% but is stretched only about 100-300% in use; the ICD Vietnam product pages state that its film stretches 150-200% when hand wrapped and up to 300-350% when machine wrapped. HDPE (high-density PE) is stiff, strong, with little stretch, and is priced per m² rather than per kg because its use is entirely different: mainly underlay and waterproofing.
Thickness and roll width
Price per kilogram of film changes little with thickness, but price per metre rises almost in proportion: 25-micron film uses about 47% more resin per metre than 17-micron film of the same width. So choosing film thicker than the load needs means paying for surplus plastic, while choosing film that is too thin means it snaps and needs extra wraps.
On width, 500 mm is the most common: all 8 ICD Vietnam stretch film codes are 500 mm wide, with a 76 mm or 54 mm core. Other widths such as 250 mm or 750 mm usually have to be priced separately per order.
Production method: cast versus blown
PE film made by casting (extruded through a flat die and cooled quickly on a chill roll) is more even in thickness, clearer and smoother when pulled off the roll. According to Wikipedia, cast film can be produced in larger volumes per hour so it costs less; blown film, by contrast, clings better but costs more to make because output per hour is lower.
For industrial pallet wrapping by machine, cast film is usually chosen because it is even and snaps less when pulled hard and fast through the pre-stretch unit. Blown film suits heavy loads and sharp edges that need strong cling and tear resistance.
Purchase quantity and wholesale discount
Wholesale discounts at ICD Vietnam depend on quantity; the specific level is given in the quote by roll code and total weight per order. When you compare two wholesale quotes, convert both to the price per kg of real film after discount, because a quote with a big discount on a heavy-core roll can still cost more.
How to calculate the real total cost when buying PE film
Real total cost = price of goods after discount + VAT + shipping; the product price is only one part. Some suppliers quote before VAT without saying so, or charge delivery separately, which raises the total noticeably. Before you confirm an order, check these four lines on the quote:
Worked example with an assumed unit price of VND 50,000/kg before tax: an order of 100 kg costs VND 5,000,000 for the goods, then VAT is added at the rate on the invoice, plus shipping by route. Under the ICD Vietnam shipping policy, the delivery fee is notified before the order is confirmed, and may be free for orders above a minimum value or delivered within defined areas; the specific conditions are stated when you order. Deliveries to distant provinces are negotiated directly by route.
How to estimate the amount of PE film to buy
Monthly film need equals pallets per month multiplied by the film weight per pallet; many businesses buy by instinct and then run short mid-month or hold too much stock.
For PE pallet film: film weight per pallet = metres of film used × width × thickness × density. For example, hand wrapping about 35 m of 17-micron film 500 mm wide (estimated in the section below) is about 0.27 kg per pallet. A business wrapping 50 pallets/day × 22 days = 1,100 pallets/month would need about 300 kg of net film, equal to about 120 ICD-MPE30 rolls (2.5 kg of film per roll). The surest method is to weigh a film roll before and after wrapping 10 pallets and take the average.
For PE waterproofing film: the area to buy equals the area to be covered plus the part anchored up the banks and the overlap for welded seams, measured from the actual construction drawing rather than adding a fixed percentage.

Spotting poor-quality PE film before you buy
PE film priced unusually low compared with the market range in the table above often shows signs of a high share of recycled resin or cheap additives. The practical results: film that snaps when stretched, does not cling, or smells when used near food. Visual checks to make before accepting delivery:
- Uneven colour: clear film with cloudy patches, white streaks or thick and thin spots suggests recycled resin or a production defect.
- Stretch: pull a length of film by hand; good film stretches evenly and then thins gradually, while poor film tears early and unevenly.
- Cling: press two layers of film together and peel them apart; good film has enough cling to hold the film tail in place.
- Smell: virgin PE film has almost no smell; a sharp or oily smell suggests additives or poor recycled resin.

For large orders, a visual check is not enough. ASTM D4649 is a guide to the selection and use of stretch wrap film, designed so that buyers and sellers can agree on specifications when purchasing; you can use it to ask the supplier to state the actual thickness, elongation and net weight on the data sheet.
Where should you buy PE film: from the manufacturer or a dealer?
Buy from a supplier with a real warehouse that states core weight clearly and can issue an invoice; every middle tier from the manufacturer down to the retail dealer adds margin to the final price. The PE film distribution chain in Vietnam usually has 2-3 layers: manufacturer, distributor and retail dealer. Criteria for judging a reliable supplier:
- Has a real factory or warehouse, not just a trading office.
- Can issue a full VAT invoice under the company tax code.
- Lets you inspect a sample before placing a large order.
- Has a clear return policy for defective goods.
- Has technical staff to help choose the right type, thickness and width for your needs.

ICD Vietnam has supplied PE pallet stretch film directly since 2011, with a Hanoi warehouse and a southern workshop, with no middleman. Delivery times follow the shipping policy: order processing 1-2 working days, delivery to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 1-3 days, nearby provinces 2-5 days, other provinces 3-7 days; VAT invoice for every order. The ICD Vietnam return policy allows a return or exchange request within 7 days of the date of sale in cases such as technical defects, goods not as described or damage in transit.
Hidden cost: the wrapping method decides how much PE film you use
For the same pallet 1.8 m tall, a machine with 250% pre-stretch uses only about 14 m of film, compared with about 35 m when hand wrapping or using a machine that only pulls film through a brake, according to the estimate below. For a high-volume warehouse, this difference in consumption is a bigger cost than comparing film prices per kg at purchase.
Assumptions: a 1.2 × 1.0 m pallet 1.8 m tall, wrapped with 2 layers, needing about 49 m of stretched film around the load; metres of film used = 49 ÷ (1 + stretch). Hand wrapping and machines without pre-stretch are assumed to stretch 20-40%; a pre-stretch machine stretches exactly at the ratio of its stretch unit.
| Wrapping method | Assumed stretch | Film used per pallet | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand wrapping | 20-40% | 35-41 m | Depends on skill, uneven tension |
| Machine without pre-stretch (brake) | about 40% | about 35 m | More even than hand wrapping |
| Machine with 150% pre-stretch | 150% | about 20 m | Saves about 44% compared with 35 m |
| Machine with 250% pre-stretch | 250% | about 14 m | Saves about 60% compared with 35 m |
Converted to a month: a warehouse wrapping 100 pallets/day, 25 days/month (2,500 pallets) would use about 87,500 m of film if hand wrapping, compared with about 35,000 m with a 250% pre-stretch machine. When you compare PE film quotes, include the wrapping method to see the real cost per pallet. Note that ICD Vietnam machine-roll film is 20-30 microns thick, so each metre weighs more than 17-micron hand film; calculate weight using the right thickness for the film you actually use.
The metres of film are estimated with the formula and assumptions above; each warehouse should measure again with its actual pallets and film.
Conclusion
PE film prices in 2026 are clearly differentiated by type and material: in the northern Vietnam market, LLDPE hand-roll stretch film is about VND 45,000 - 65,000/kg, machine rolls VND 50,000 - 70,000/kg, and HDPE waterproofing film VND 25,000 - 40,000/m², all before VAT. To optimize cost, convert prices to kg of real film, choose just enough thickness, buy enough quantity to earn the wholesale discount, and test a sample before a large order.
ICD Vietnam supplies the full range of PE pallet film for logistics and manufacturing businesses, with nationwide delivery in 1-7 working days depending on the area, VAT invoices, and technical advice to choose the right specification for real needs.
PE film price FAQ
Has the PE film price in 2026 gone up compared with last year?
PE film prices follow LLDPE resin prices and transport costs, so they change month to month. The table in this article gives reference ranges compiled since June 2026; when you buy, ask for a quote that states its effective date. Regular buyers can stabilize costs with a long-term supply contract with a quarterly price adjustment clause.
How much does it cost to buy 1-2 rolls of PE film at retail?
Retail purchases usually have a higher unit price than buying by the carton or lot. Common hand rolls weigh 2-5 kg including the core; for example the ICD-MPE21 weighs 2.1 kg including 1.8 kg of film; ICD Vietnam retail price: contact us for a quote. If you use 10 or more rolls a month regularly, buy by the carton or lot to earn a discount and save shipping.
How do hand-wrap and machine-wrap PE film differ in price?
Machine-roll film is usually thicker (ICD Vietnam machine rolls are 20-30 microns, hand rolls 17 microns), heavier (about 15 kg) and uses a rigid core of 1 kg or more, so the price per roll is much higher. Even so, when used on a pallet wrapper with pre-stretch, the metres of film used per pallet fall sharply, so the film cost per pallet is usually lower than hand wrapping.
How much does a 3 kg roll of PE film cost, and how many metres is it?
Applying the market hand-roll range of VND 45,000 - 65,000/kg counted on the whole roll, a 3 kg roll is a reference VND 135,000 - 195,000 before VAT; the ICD Vietnam price for a 3 kg roll: contact us for a quote. The ICD-MPE30 roll weighs 3.0 kg, including 2.5 kg of film and a 0.5 kg core; at 500 mm wide, 17 microns thick and an LLDPE density of about 0.92 g/cm³, the roll is about 320 m long. For other rolls, apply the formula: length = film weight ÷ (width × thickness × density).
Can I get a sample before placing a large order?
You should ask for a trial sample before any large order, together with the technical specifications (actual thickness, elongation, net weight and core weight). Call the ICD Vietnam hotline to ask about sampling conditions for the film type you need.
What are the payment and delivery terms?
Under the ICD Vietnam purchase guide, payment follows the method both sides agree when the order is confirmed (cash or bank transfer), and a VAT invoice is issued on request. Orders are processed in 1-2 working days, with delivery to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 1-3 days, nearby provinces 2-5 days and other provinces 3-7 working days.
