Reviewed and updated by ICD - Week 43/2026
Used hand pallet trucks in Hanoi are currently advertised at about VND 1.8 to 3.5 million for a 2.5 to 3-tonne low-lift truck and VND 4.5 to 8 million for a 1-tonne high-lift stacker, depending on origin and condition. The safest way to buy is to load-test it yourself: lift the truck fully loaded and hold for 5 to 10 minutes; if the forks do not sink, the pump seals are still tight; if it sinks, leaks oil or the forks are bent, walk away however cheap it is.
I have worked in warehouse equipment long enough to know that the used market does not lack trucks, only decent ones. This guide brings together the prices currently listed publicly, how to check the three parts that decide a truck’s value, and two issues few people mention: the legal origin of imported Japanese used trucks, and whether a used hand pallet truck needs an inspection certificate. ICD Vietnam’s forklift range covers many models; this guide deals only with used hand pallet trucks.
1. What used hand pallet trucks in Hanoi are advertised for
On 19 October 2026 I compared the public price lists of three used-truck sellers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, plus listings on one online marketplace. The table below combines them into a range for each type; each row shows the lowest to highest figure across sources, not a final price.
| Used truck type | Listed price range (VND million) | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Chinese low-lift, 2 to 2.5 tonnes | 1.8 to 2.5 | The cheapest range, usually around 80% condition |
| Low-lift, 3 tonnes | 2.5 to 3 | Forks and pump carry more load, so test it more carefully |
| Japanese used low-lift, 2 to 3 tonnes | 2.8 to 6.5 | Two sellers list almost double apart for the same type |
| High-lift 1 tonne, 1.6 m lift | 4.5 to 8 | Also check the lifting chain and the frame |
| Low-lift, 5 tonnes | 3.5 to 9 | A huge gap between a Chinese truck and one in good condition |
A range this wide shows there is no reliable “market price” for each type. For the same 2.5-tonne Japanese used truck, one seller lists close to VND 3 million and another VND 4.5 to 5.5 million. On the online marketplace the same day, working 1.5 to 2.5-tonne hand trucks were advertised from about VND 1 to 3 million, and most listings did not state the pump’s condition.
2. Why the same type can differ by double in price
Used truck prices differ for four reasons, and you can check all four yourself. First is origin: Japanese imports, domestic factory disposals and used Chinese trucks are three different sources, each with its own price level. Second is the condition of the pump unit, since the pump is the most expensive part when it fails. Third is whether the seller re-seals, changes the oil and load-tests before delivery, or sells as is. Fourth is the warranty that comes with it.
On warranty, publicly listed sellers usually state a pump warranty of 1 to 3 months, some up to 6 months, while private resellers give almost none. A truck VND 500,000 cheaper but with no warranty, if its seals fail after two weeks, usually ends up costing more than one with a 3-month pump warranty. So before comparing prices, compare the conditions that come with them and ask for the warranty period and scope to be written on the sales receipt.
3. How to check the truck yourself before paying
The three parts that decide the value of a used hand pallet truck are the hydraulic pump unit, the fork frame and the wheels. Check them in the order below, and do not hesitate to let the seller see you do it: a decent seller will not stop you load-testing.
The hydraulic pump unit: the most expensive part
First look around the pump body and the piston rod. Spread or wet oil means the seals have failed. Then test the load, which is the most important test: put a pallet loaded close to the maximum on the forks, lift the full stroke, then leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. If the forks sink by themselves, the internal seals are leaking or the pump is blowing oil; in our assessment this is a fault to reject the truck for, not to bargain over. Forks that sink on their own are explained in the article on pallet jack forks lowering by themselves.
Next squeeze the release valve: the forks must lower smoothly, without jerking or sticking. Watch while lifting too: the truck must reach full stroke without running out of breath.
Fork frame, welds and wheels
Used trucks are often knocked about, so look closely at both forks for misalignment, bending or cracks at the welds. Deformed forks tilt the pallet when lifting, which is far more dangerous than a scratch in the paint. Then push the truck some distance on a flat floor: it should travel straight, not drift to one side.
Old PU or nylon wheels are often worn unevenly or have a broken coating. Spin each wheel and listen for play, looseness or sticking in the bearings. Worn wheels make the truck heavy to push, but this is an easy fix and a fair reason to negotiate on price.
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| Oil spread around the pump or piston rod | Deduct the cost of new seals from the price, or walk away if it still sinks in the load test |
| Forks sink when holding the load for 5 to 10 minutes | Reject the truck |
| Bent forks, cracked welds | Reject the truck, because it has been overloaded |
| Worn wheels, loose bearings | Bargain on price, or ask for a new set of wheels |
| Release valve jerks or sticks | Ask the seller whether it has been cleaned and the oil changed before deciding |
If you are buying for long-term use and do not want to worry about the pump or seals, comparing with a new truck that has a warranty is also a way to count it. ICD Vietnam distributes Xilin forklifts (Ningbo Ruyi Group) with a 12-month warranty, and also carries out forklift repairs, rentals and instalment purchase support.
4. Common types of used hand pallet truck
- Used low-lift hand pallet truck: the most common, with capacities usually from 2 to 5 tonnes, used to pull pallets just above the ground. Pay attention to the fork width so it matches your warehouse’s pallet openings.
- Used high-lift hand stacker: 1 to 1.5-tonne units lifting about 1.6 m are in high demand for loading trucks or low racking.
- Used electric hand truck: higher priced and needs extra checks of the battery, charger and motor; buy only when the seller lets you run it fully.
5. Origin of Japanese used trucks and inspection
Two legal issues are often overlooked when buying a used truck. We separate clearly where the documents say something outright and where it is our reading.
Imported used equipment must be under 10 years old
Circular 56/2026/TT-BKHCN of the Ministry of Science and Technology, signed on 5 September 2026 and effective the same day, regulates the import of used machinery, equipment and technology lines. Article 6 requires the equipment to be no more than 10 years old, counted as the import year minus the manufacturing year, and made to national technical regulations on safety, energy saving and environmental protection, or to the standards of a G7 country or Korea where no Vietnamese regulation exists. Article 9 additionally requires a manufacturer’s certificate of the year of manufacture, or an inspection certificate from a designated body.
Appendix I of the circular sets separate ages for some sectors; in the extract on thuvienphapluat.vn dated 9 September 2026, these sectors are metalworking, wood processing, paper and pulp, and heading 84.27 for forklifts is not among them. In our reading, imported used forklifts fall under the general 10-year limit. Article 4 also states the principle of allowing import only of equipment that directly serves the importing company’s own production; this guide does not conclude whether importing for resale fits.
Does a used hand pallet truck need an inspection certificate
Item 18 of the list of machinery with strict labour-safety requirements under Circular 36/2019/TT-BLDTBXH reads “motorised forklifts with a lifting capacity of 1,000 kg or more”. The wording does not name hand pallet trucks operated by human effort. Electric or semi-electric hand trucks are a grey area, which we analysed separately in our article on whether a hand pallet truck needs an inspection certificate. If your warehouse uses a truck with a motor, ask an inspection body before buying.
6. Where to buy a used hand pallet truck safely
Instead of looking for a vague “reputable address”, apply three criteria when choosing where to buy. The truck must be available for you to inspect and load-test on site. The sales receipt must state the pump warranty and its term. The seller must be able to say where the truck came from: which factory it was disposed of by, or when it was imported and with what documents.
You can buy from a dedicated used-truck dealer, from a company disposing of warehouse equipment, or through an online marketplace. Whichever channel, load-test before transferring money; for marketplace listings, do not pay a deposit before seeing the truck in person.

Frequently asked questions
1. Should I buy a used hand pallet truck with no brand?
In my experience, a truck with a clear brand is easier to trace and easier to find replacement seals and wheels for. Even so, a brand does not replace the load test: a well-known truck that sinks after 10 minutes must still be rejected, while a little-known truck that holds the load with straight forks can still be used.
2. Does a used hand pallet truck come with a warranty?
It depends on the seller. Publicly listed sellers usually state a pump warranty of 1 to 6 months, while private resellers give almost none. Ask for the warranty period and scope to be written on the sales receipt before paying.
3. Does a used hand pallet truck need an inspection certificate?
By the wording of item 18 of the list attached to Circular 36/2019/TT-BLDTBXH, the forklifts that must be inspected are motorised ones with a lifting capacity of 1,000 kg or more; a hand pallet truck operated by human effort is not named in this item. For electric or semi-electric hand trucks, ask an inspection body to be sure.
4. I want to sell a used truck: what should I do to get a good price?
Clean the truck thoroughly, fill the oil and check the basic functions. A truck that works well and looks clean always gets a higher offer. Have the purchase documents ready and offer the buyer a 5 to 10-minute load test yourself, because an experienced buyer will pay more for a truck that holds its load well.
