Author: Le Van Thang, CEO of ICD Vietnam – specifying high-lift stackers since 2010.
A high-lift hand pallet truck (stacker) uses a powerful hydraulic mast to raise loads from 1.6 m to 5 m, turning floor space into vertical storage without the cost of an electric forklift. ICD distributes Xilin SDJ-series stackers at 400-3,000 kg, in braked and unbraked versions, built from C- and U-channel high-strength steel with hard-chrome pistons. It is the optimal space solution for mid-size warehouses with limited floor area. Genuine 2-year warranty, parts in stock. Part of the hand pallet truck family; for horizontal moves see low-profile trucks.
Choose a high-lift stacker when:
- Loading racking 1.6-5 m: one worker can place heavy pallets on high shelves safely.
- Small warehouse, high stacking density: it uses vertical space the way a forklift does, at a fraction of the price.
- Loading or unloading trucks: the mast lifts pallets to bed height for transfer.

2. Braked vs unbraked – and reading the load chart
Two decisions matter more than the headline capacity. First, braked or unbraked. A braked stacker locks the steer wheel, which is essential on high racking or any surface with the slightest slope – it stops the truck rolling while you lift a load several metres up, protecting both the goods and the operator. An unbraked stacker is lighter, cheaper and turns more freely in narrow aisles, but it belongs only on a perfectly flat floor with moderate loads. When in doubt, choose braked.
Second, read the load chart, not just the maximum capacity. A stacker rated “1,000 kg” carries that only at low lift; as the forks rise, the safe load drops to keep the centre of gravity stable. CEO Le Van Thang’s field rule: “The durability of a stacker is in the pump and piston – check the chrome finish on the piston rod. A good chrome layer minimises friction against the seal and prevents oil leaks after a few years. The release valve must also be sensitive, so you can lower the load very slowly as it approaches the rack – that is what prevents damaged pallets and collapsed racking.” Size the stacker so your heaviest load at your highest tier still sits inside the chart, with margin.
3. Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need a braked stacker?
Yes if you lift on high racking or any sloped surface – the brake stops the truck rolling during a high lift. Unbraked suits only flat floors with moderate loads.
2. Why does the rated capacity drop at height?
The load chart reduces safe load as the forks rise, to keep the centre of gravity stable. Always size to your heaviest load at your highest tier.
3. Single or double mast?
Single mast for lower lifts; double (telescopic) mast for higher lifts in a compact closed height. We match the mast to your ceiling and racking.
4. What warranty applies?
A genuine 2-year Xilin warranty with pumps, seals and chains stocked locally.
