How to operate a pallet wrapper correctly
Operating a pallet wrapper is not complex, but doing the steps wrong leads to a poor wrap, damaged goods or workplace injury. This guide gives the correct step-by-step procedure for both semi-automatic and fully automatic machines. To choose the right unit, see our stretch wrapping machines range.
Pre-start check
Before each shift, run a quick 5-point check: (1) stable 220V power, breaker not tripped; (2) enough film on the roll, loaded the right way (film feeds from the inside out); (3) no foreign objects on the turntable; (4) the drive belt is not loose or broken; (5) the area around the machine is clear, with no one within 1.5 m when it is about to run.
Operating a semi-automatic pallet wrapper
Step 1 - Place the pallet on the turntable: use a forklift or hand truck to set the pallet in the center of the turntable. It must sit CENTERED - an off-center pallet makes the machine vibrate hard, shortens its life and can topple the load at high speed.
Step 2 - Anchor the film tail: pull about 30-40 cm of film from the roll and tuck the tail into the pallet foot or under the load so it does not pull free when the turntable starts. This is the most-skipped step and the one that causes the film to snap at the very start of the cycle.
Step 3 - Set the film carriage: lower the mast to its lowest point (level with the pallet foot). Set the film tension on the brake unit: lower for light, fragile goods; higher for heavy, stable goods. Start at a medium setting and adjust after a test.
Step 4 - Start: press START or turn the switch. The turntable accelerates gently (the inverter ramps up, no jerk). Let the mast rise with the pallet height (by hand or the mast-lift switch).
Step 5 - Finish the cycle: when the mast reaches the top of the pallet, add 2-3 wraps at the top, then lower it for 2-3 reinforcing wraps at the base. Press STOP. Tear the film and tuck or clip the tail to the pallet.
Operating a fully automatic wrapper
An automatic machine runs the whole cycle without intervention: place the pallet, press START, and it raises the mast, wraps to the set program, lowers the mast, clamps and cuts the film, and signals completion. The operator’s main job is programming the settings and loading/unloading pallets.
Settings to program: base wraps (usually 3-4), body wraps (1-2), top wraps (2-3), turntable speed (6-10 rpm for normal goods), and pre-stretch tension (150-300%).

Operating safety
The danger zone is within 1.5 m of the turntable while the machine runs. Do not stand or reach into it while the table spins. To stop suddenly, hit the EMERGENCY STOP (usually a large red button) - never intervene by hand. Do not wrap a pallet over the turntable’s maximum load (usually 2,000 kg), do not stack higher than the mast’s maximum height, and never let the film tangle around the motor shaft - if it does, stop the machine before clearing it.
Quick troubleshooting
Film breaks while wrapping: lower the tension 1-2 steps; if it still breaks, check the tension roller for a chipped sharp edge. Machine won’t start: check the breaker, the fuse, and whether the EMERGENCY STOP is pressed (twist to release). Turntable vibrates hard: stop immediately and check whether the pallet is off-center; if it is centered and still vibrates, check the drive belt.
