A mini stretch wrapping machine serves a completely different need from an industrial pallet wrapper: it is compact, flexible and low cost, suited to small warehouses, retail counters and dispatch points. This guide covers the three most common types of mini stretch wrapper, their prices and load limits, how they compare, and how to choose the right one without overpaying for capacity you will not use.
What is a mini stretch wrapping machine and how does it differ from a pallet wrapper?
The term mini stretch wrapping machine has no strict technical definition. It generally refers to hand-held or small semi-automatic wrappers that use a small PE stretch film roll, under 200 mm in diameter, instead of the large 500 mm rolls fitted to industrial machines.
Industrial pallet wrappers wrap loads up to 2,000 kg and 2 m tall at 10-60 pallets per hour with a powered turntable. A mini wrapper typically handles parcels under 30-50 kg, has no powered turntable on the hand-held versions, and its output depends entirely on the operator. The two machines answer two very different requirements.
If you are sourcing a true pallet wrapper for a logistics warehouse, see the full criteria in our guide to choosing the right shrink and stretch wrapping machine.
Three common types of mini stretch wrapper
Type 1: Hand stretch wrapper (mechanical)
The simplest device: a hand frame with a spindle holding a small PE film roll. The operator holds it and walks around the parcel to wrap. No motor, no power. Price: 800,000 - 2,000,000 VND. Best for retail counters, small stockrooms and dispatch points. Downsides: tiring on the hands with continuous use, and uneven wrap quality.
Type 2: Hand dispenser with stand
An improvement on the basic hand wrapper: the roll sits on a stand with an adjustable brake to control film tension. The operator pulls film out and walks around the product while the stand holds the roll and manages tension. More efficient and less tiring. Price: 3,000,000 - 8,000,000 VND.
Type 3: Mini semi-automatic wrapper (tabletop)
Fitted with a small powered turntable, 400-600 mm across, rated for 50-150 kg. Place the product on the turntable, press a button, and the table rotates while the operator holds and guides the film. Output is far higher than wrapping by hand. Price: 8,000,000 - 15,000,000 VND. Best for small warehouses wrapping 10-30 products a day, stationery, small electronics and single e-commerce parcels.
Comparing the three mini stretch wrapper types
| Criterion | Hand wrapper | Dispenser with stand | Mini semi-automatic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | 800k - 2 million VND | 3-8 million VND | 8-15 million VND |
| Load capacity | No limit (operator wraps) | No limit | 50-150 kg |
| Output | Low, tiring | Moderate | Higher, less tiring |
| Power | None needed | None needed | 220V required |
| Best for | Occasional use | Daily but light use | Regular use |
When to choose a mini wrapper over an industrial machine
A mini stretch wrapper is the right choice when you wrap under 20-30 parcels a day, your products are small and under 50 kg, floor space is limited, and your budget is under 15 million VND.
By contrast, if your warehouse needs to wrap 30-50 standard pallets a day or more, a mini machine cannot keep up and quickly becomes a bottleneck in the workflow. At that point you should invest in a semi-automatic or fully automatic line. See the detailed comparison of automatic and semi-automatic stretch wrappers.
Common mistakes when using a mini stretch wrapper
Film tearing: caused by pulling too hard or using film that is too thin (under 15 micron) on products with sharp edges. Use 20-23 micron film and reduce the pulling force.
Uneven wrap with open corners: caused by moving too fast or not overlapping the wraps enough. Each pass should overlap the previous one by at least 30-40 percent of the film width.
Mini semi-automatic machine vibrating: caused by placing the product off-centre on the turntable, creating an unbalanced load. Centre the product and reduce speed if the product is very asymmetric.

Frequently asked questions about mini stretch wrappers
1. Can a mini stretch wrapper wrap a pallet?
The hand-held type with no turntable can technically wrap a pallet, but it is impractical: the operator has to walk around a large pallet dozens of times, which is tiring and gives poor wrap quality. For a standard 1200 x 1000 mm pallet 1.5-2 m tall, you need a machine with a powered turntable.
2. Where do I buy PE stretch film for a mini machine?
Small PE film rolls (100-200 mm wide, 100-150 mm in diameter) are widely sold at packaging supply outlets or ordered directly from a PE film manufacturer. ICD Viet Nam supplies PE stretch film for both mini and industrial machines.
3. What film thickness should I use on a mini wrapper?
For general parcels, 20-23 micron PE stretch film gives a good balance of strength and cost. Avoid film under 15 micron on items with sharp edges, as it tears easily under tension.
4. Does a mini semi-automatic wrapper need three-phase power?
No. Mini semi-automatic wrappers run on standard 220V single-phase power, so they suit small warehouses, offices and retail spaces without special electrical work.
5. How many products a day justify a semi-automatic mini wrapper?
If you wrap roughly 10-30 products a day, a mini semi-automatic machine pays off through higher output and less operator fatigue. Below that, a hand wrapper or dispenser with stand is enough.
