Rubber wood grade AA represents the highest segment of finger-jointed panels. Both faces are selected to the strictest standard - no dead knots, no black grain lines, and color consistency above 90% across all joined strips. To qualify for grade AA, each rubber wood strip must pass strict manual sorting before jointing. The finished panel must be completely free of dead knots (the black, hollow knots), free of long black grain lines, and color uniformity across joined strips must exceed 90%.

In practical terms for woodworkers: this is the grade where both faces are defect-free. It is typically positioned as an export grade or for high-end interior joinery projects.

Perfect aesthetics on every visible face. When you make a door panel, a room divider, or an open bookcase, both sides of the board will be visible to the end user. Only grade AA delivers the same defect-free appearance on both faces - there is no need to orient the board to hide the weaker side.

Lower finishing labor cost. With AB or AC panels, the finishing crew spends considerable time filling dead knots and cracks with filler, re-sanding, and blending. With grade AA the surface is already perfect - the board goes straight to the spray booth. The saving in labor time offsets a significant portion of the material price premium.

Consistent color under lacquer. Because color uniformity across the strips is above 90%, grade AA panels produce a uniform, bright tone when stained or lacquered - no patchy areas caused by strips of different shades.

6. When is grade AA mandatory?

Export manufacturing. Demanding markets such as Japan and South Korea apply very strict quality inspection. A single dead knot can cause an entire shipment to be returned. Export furniture factories therefore specify AA panels as standard.

Double-sided CNC routing. When a CNC router cuts decorative patterns through a panel for a room divider, the cut exposes the internal core of the board. A lower-grade panel can have voids or dead knots that cause the cutting bit to break and ruin the pattern. The dense, uniform structure of grade AA is the safe choice for CNC work.

High-end residential interiors. Clients in premium apartments and villas are detail-oriented. They will not accept a cabinet door where the inside face is spotted with dark knots. The flawless finish of grade AA on both faces is the standard required to close these projects successfully.
