Floor-Lining Plastic Pallets: Sizes, Materials and Uses

A floor-lining plastic pallet is an HDPE or PP panel 35 - 145 mm high that lifts goods off a damp floor, lines animal pens, or is joined together as a stage or event deck. The ICD Vietnam catalogue currently has about 16 floor-lining codes, from a thin 600 x 1000 x 35 mm panel weighing 4.2 kg with a 3,000 kg static load, up to a 9-foot 1000 x 1200 x 140 mm pallet that a forklift can lift.

The first distinction to make: a panel without feet only covers the floor and stays in place, while a panel with 100 - 145 mm feet creates the gap that forklift tines need. Load ratings also differ enormously between codes, from 100 kg to 3,000 kg, so read the specification of the exact code before you choose.

Benefits of floor-lining plastic pallets

The main benefit of a floor-lining plastic pallet is that it lifts goods off a damp floor using a material that does not absorb water, can be washed and lasts for years, which is exactly where wooden pallets rot quickly. Wood placed directly on concrete draws moisture up from below, grows mould and passes odour to packaging; an HDPE or PP panel absorbs almost no water, so the underside of the cartons stays drier. The code closest to this use is the 600 x 1000 x 35 mm slatted floor-lining plastic pallet.

The plastic surface is smooth, with no splinters or nails, so it is easy to hose down and scrub and does not tear sacks. Plastic is not attacked by termites or borers and resists most common cleaning chemicals. When a panel cracks, HDPE (resin code 2) and PP (resin code 5) are both recyclable thermoplastics, so take them to a plastic collection point rather than burning them or putting them in ordinary waste. One reference code for this need is the 600 x 1000 x 35 mm closed-deck floor-lining plastic pallet.

Plastic has limits too. A thin panel without feet only carries load when it lies on a flat floor; an uneven floor makes the panel sag and crack over the gaps. For outdoor walkways use a ribbed slatted panel, because a closed plastic deck gets slippery when wet.

What are floor-lining plastic pallets made of?

Floor-lining plastic pallets are made mainly from HDPE or PP, and a lower-priced recycled grade also exists. In the ICD Vietnam catalogue, the 1200 x 1000 x 78 mm and 1200 x 1000 x 145 mm panels are HDPE, while the 1800 x 600 x 50 mm panel without feet and the 1000 x 600 x 100 mm panel with feet are PP. HDPE is tougher, takes impact well and keeps its strength at low temperatures, so it suits cold stores, wet areas and chemical use. PP is stiffer and tolerates more heat than HDPE, but it is more brittle in cold weather and under hard impact. Outdoors for long periods, both need a UV stabiliser, otherwise the surface fades and gradually turns brittle in the sun.

Recycled plastic costs less but its durability is harder to predict because it depends on the input material. It suits temporary floor lining, indoor storage areas and goods with no hygiene requirement. Food and pharmaceutical stores should choose virgin plastic.

Sizes and load ratings of floor-lining plastic pallet codes

Floor-lining plastic pallets fall into two groups: panels without feet, 35 - 50 mm high, to cover the floor, and panels with feet, 78 - 145 mm high, to hold goods. The table below lists the floor-lining codes in the ICD Vietnam catalogue with the loads published on the product pages, checked on 15 October 2026.

Two points when reading this table. First, the 3,000 kg static load of the 35 mm panel is a load spread evenly while the panel lies flat on the floor; it does not mean the panel can take a rack leg or a wheel concentrating force on a single point. Second, the small-footed codes such as 600 x 600 x 100 mm publish only 100 kg, far lower than their appearance suggests, so use them for light goods only.

Besides the floor-lining codes above, the market also offers many plastic pallet sizes about 150 mm high, such as 1000 x 1000, 1200 x 1000, 1200 x 800, 1100 x 1100, 1300 x 1100, 1400 x 1200 and 1500 x 1500 mm, which work both as floor supports and for lifting. When goods must move in and out by forklift often, this group usually suits better than a pure floor-lining panel.

Closed deck, mesh deck or with feet: which to choose?

Choose by the job the panel must do: a closed deck for a flat surface that is easy to wipe, a mesh or slatted deck for drainage and ventilation, and a footed panel to hold goods above the floor and let forklift tines in. A closed deck suits carpeted stage floors and food or pharmaceutical packing areas. A mesh or slatted deck suits damp stores, animal pens and outdoor events, where rain needs to drain downward.

Footed panels are 100 - 145 mm high; the 9-foot 800 x 1200 and 1000 x 1200 mm codes have gaps wide enough for a hand pallet truck to slide its forks in. Most floor-lining panels are single-faced pallets, using only the top face to carry goods; double-faced pallets are sturdier and are used when goods are stacked or the pallet must be flipped, but they are heavier and cost more. Some makers also offer an anti-static type for electronic-component stores.

On colour, the market offers black, blue, green, red, yellow and white; in the ICD Vietnam catalogue, blue and green have the most codes. Many warehouses use colour to zone areas, for example one colour for goods awaiting inspection and another for finished goods.

Where are floor-lining plastic pallets used?

Floor-lining plastic pallets are used most often to hold goods off damp floors in warehouses, to line animal pens and to form stage and event floors. In warehouses and factories the panels go under sacks of flour, cartons and rolls of fabric so goods do not touch the floor; supermarkets and shops use the low footed type to hold stock in the back room.

In livestock farming, slatted floor panels in pens let manure and urine fall through, so the pen floor stays drier and is easier to hose clean. For food and pharmaceutical stores, floor panels keep goods at a distance from the floor as hygiene rules require; when goods are not in sealed packaging, ask the supplier about the plastic type and the food-safety documents of the code you plan to buy.

Plastic stage pallets: how to use them and which type to choose

Plastic stage pallets are closed-deck or slatted floor-lining panels, 35 - 50 mm high, joined edge to edge to make a stage floor, walkway or event ground. The panels lie directly on flat ground, or on a steel truss frame when the stage needs to be raised.

Compared with wooden boards, plastic panels are lighter (a closed-deck 600 x 1000 x 35 mm panel weighs about 4.2 kg), do not soak up rain, go up and come down quickly, and can be reused for many events. For outdoor events on grass, soil or gravel use slatted panels so water drains and does not pool; for an indoor stage covered with carpet, a closed deck gives a flatter surface.

How many plastic panels does a stage need?

The number of panels is the stage area divided by the area of one panel, rounded up on each side. For example, a 6 x 4 m stage (24 m²) needs 40 panels of 600 x 1000 mm (10 x 4 panels, an exact fit), or 48 panels of 500 x 1070 mm. For other sizes, use the quick estimates below.

How do floor-lining pallets differ from storage pallets and spill pallets?

A floor-lining pallet covers the floor and stays in place, a storage pallet is for lifting and moving goods by forklift, and a spill pallet catches liquid leaking from drums. All three are made of HDPE or PP and are waterproof and washable, so the difference is in the structure, not the material.

A storage pallet is about 120 - 170 mm high, publishes a dynamic load and many models also have a racking load. Floor-lining panels are lower, mostly publish no dynamic load and are not used on racking. If one warehouse area needs both floor lining and daily goods handling by forklift, a 150 mm storage pallet is usually more sensible than a floor-lining panel.

Floor-lining plastic pallet prices and how to order

The price of a floor-lining plastic pallet depends on size and thickness, the plastic type (virgin or recycled), the deck and foot style, and the order quantity; ICD Vietnam quotes per code and per order. Large panels with many feet use more plastic than thin panels; virgin plastic costs more than recycled; large orders are quoted by the batch.

What are the advantages of floor-lining plastic pallets over wooden pallets?

Floor-lining plastic pallets are waterproof, free of termites, splinters and nails, washable and reusable for years. Wooden pallets cost less and are easy to build to custom sizes, but they absorb moisture and go mouldy when placed directly on a damp floor.

What material are floor-lining plastic pallets usually made of?

Most often HDPE, which is tough and keeps its strength at low temperatures, and PP, which is stiffer and more heat-tolerant but more brittle in the cold. A lower-priced recycled plastic also exists and suits temporary indoor floor lining.

Are plastic pallets environmentally safe?

How many plastic panels does a 24 m² stage need?

A 6 x 4 m stage needs 40 panels of 600 x 1000 mm, an exact fit for the floor; order 3 - 5% extra for replacements. If you use 500 x 1070 mm panels you need 48.

How many kg can a floor-lining plastic pallet carry?

It depends on the code: the 600 x 600 x 100 mm panel publishes a static load of 100 kg, the 500 x 1070 x 40 mm panel 150 kg, the 9-foot 1000 x 1200 x 140 mm 2,000 kg, and the 600 x 1000 x 35 mm, 1800 x 600 x 50 mm and 1200 x 1000 x 78 mm panels publish 3,000 kg. Check the load of the exact code you plan to use.

Can floor-lining plastic panels be placed on racking?

No, they should not be. The panel’s load is calculated when it lies flat on the floor; on rack beams the panel is supported only at its two edges, so it sags and cracks easily. Goods on racking need a pallet with a published racking load.
