The AbsorGel Hanging-C 0.5 kg is a container desiccant bag holding 0.5 kg of calcium chloride (over 94%) mixed with modified starch, 840 mm long, which absorbs moisture and forms a gel so nothing leaks. The bag has a pre-attached AbsorHook and hangs in the corrugation of the container wall. A 20ft container on a short route (about 30 days) with dry cargo needs about 10 bags, and a 40ft about 18 bags.

Why there is a 0.5 kg version next to the 1.0 kg

A smaller bag lets the desiccant be distributed more evenly along the length of the container instead of being concentrated in a few spots. In a 20ft container with humid cargo or goods stacked against the wall, more small bags cover more mounting positions, while each bag still needs only a 25 mm gap. The total calcium chloride for a 20ft container with dry cargo on a short route is equivalent: 10 bags of 0.5 kg versus 5 bags of 1.0 kg.

How to install

Hang the bag with the AbsorHook in the corrugation of the container wall, or use the AbsorStick to reach the lashing rings high up without a ladder. Two AbsorStick poles joined together are long enough for a high cube container. It can also be hung horizontally using the grommet. Only open the sealed plastic wrap right before installing, because the bag starts absorbing as soon as it meets the air.

The actual quantity depends on transit time, climate, the volume of air in the container, the type of packaging and the type of goods. These are reference levels from the manufacturer, and ICD advises the specific quantity for your shipment.

Applications

  • 20ft containers and light cargo that needs coverage at many spots.
  • Agricultural goods, timber, paper, garments, footwear, household goods and components on short and medium routes.
  • Combined with air dunnage bags when you need both cushioning against shifting and moisture protection.

To reduce the number of installations on a long route, see the Hanging-C 1.0 kg. Condensation and the correct placement of desiccant are explained in what is a desiccant.

Safety and disposal

Calcium chloride causes serious eye irritation (H319, under GHS), so wear gloves when installing and avoid letting the bag tear. The product is single use, disposed of under local waste regulations. The gray AbsorHook can be detached for recycling.

Frequently asked questions

How many Hanging-C 0.5 kg bags does a 20ft container need?

From 10 bags (short route, dry cargo) to 22 bags (long route, humid cargo) according to the manufacturer's table. The final number depends on the type of cargo, the time and the climate of the route.

Does the Hanging-C 0.5 kg come with adhesive patches?

No. The 0.5 kg version has the AbsorHook and a grommet hole; adhesive patches are only on the 1.0 kg version and the Blanket-C blanket.

Can 0.5 kg and 1.0 kg bags be used together in one container?

Yes. Many users combine 1.0 kg bags in the middle with 0.5 kg bags at the ends of the container to cover evenly. ICD calculates the total calcium chloride needed and divides it by position.

Can a container desiccant bag be reused?

No. AbsorGel is a single-use product. Only plastic accessories such as the AbsorStick can be reused, and the gray AbsorHook can be sorted for recycling.
