Nestable plastic pallets stack inside one another when empty, collapsing 20-30 units into the height of a few, which saves around 70% of floor and transport space on empty return legs. ICD moulds them in HDPE at 1100x1100x140 mm and 1200×1000 mm, with dynamic load 1,000 kg, static load 3,000 kg and beam-rack load 700 kg. They suit two-way logistics and one-way shipping where the empty return cost matters. For racked storage above 800 kg use warehouse storage pallets; see all options on the plastic pallets page.
Choose nestable pallets when:
- Empty return legs are expensive: nesting 20-30 high cuts return transport and storage volume by about 70%.
- Two-way distribution and display: light, easy to handle, and tidy when stored empty.
- Retail and FMCG: a low-cost, space-efficient pallet for high-rotation goods.
1. Nestable pallet specifications
| Model | Size (mm) | Dynamic | Static | Nest ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nestable HDPE 1100 | 1100x1100x140 | 1,000 kg | 3,000 kg | 20-30 high |
| Nestable HDPE 1200 | 1200×1000 | 1,000 kg | 3,000 kg | 20-30 high |
Loads measured at 20-25C. Beam-rack load 700 kg; for higher racked loads use a rigid warehouse or steel-core pallet.
2. Nestable vs stackable – and the empty-return maths
Nestable and stackable pallets solve different problems. A nestable pallet has no bottom deck, so empties drop inside each other and a column of 20-30 takes little height – ideal for the empty return journey. A stackable pallet has a full bottom deck, so loaded pallets stack squarely on top of each other in storage, but empties do not collapse.
The trade-off: a nestable pallet, having no bottom deck, carries less on a rack (700 kg here) and is best floor-loaded or shelf-supported. If your pain point is the cost of shipping air on empty return legs – common in two-way distribution and pooling – the nestable wins. A simple check: if return transport of empty pallets is a recurring line on your logistics bill, nesting 20-30 into one footprint usually pays for itself quickly. 4. Frequently asked questions
1. How much space do nestable pallets save?
About 70% of floor and transport volume on empty return legs, by nesting 20-30 units into the height of a few.
2. Can nestable pallets go on racking?
Up to 700 kg per beam position, and best on shelf-supported racking. For higher racked loads use a rigid warehouse or steel-core pallet.
3. Nestable or stackable?
Nestable if empty-return cost is your problem (empties collapse together). Stackable if you need loaded pallets to stack squarely in storage.
4. Which industries use them most?
Retail, FMCG, two-way distribution and pooling, where pallets cycle back empty.
