Industrial Plastic Crate Price List 2026: Wholesale Quotes by Type and Size

The price of an industrial plastic crate is set first of all by how much plastic goes into each crate, because resin makes up roughly 70 - 80% of the production cost of plastic products according to the Vietnam Plastics Association. After that come the crate type, accessories, order quantity, transport cost and VAT (8% until 31 December 2026). At ICD Vietnam the price of each model is “contact for a quote”, given by quantity and delivery point.

I am Le Van Thang, and I have worked at ICD Vietnam since 2011. When quoting industrial plastic crates, I see many purchasing departments compare only the price per crate and ignore the cost over the whole life cycle (total cost of ownership): a cheap crate that cracks at the rim after a few peak seasons is often more expensive than a heavier crate that lasts for years. This article does not give a fixed price list, because the price of resin changes from one period to the next; instead it shows how to read, compare and calculate a plastic crate quotation correctly.

Common plastic crate models and their tare weight (2026)

To compare crate prices, compare the same model, the same size and the same tare weight, because the weight of plastic is the largest part of the cost. The table below comes from ICD Vietnam product pages (checked on 16 October 2026) and covers the most common 610 x 420 mm crate range, shipper baskets with wheels and component trays; the price of each model is contact for a quote.

Two things stand out in the table. At the same height of 190 mm, a solid crate weighs 1,750 g while an open crate weighs 1,300 g, so a closed-wall crate uses about one third more plastic; that is why open baskets are usually cheaper than solid plastic bins of the same size. Within one range, weight rises quickly with height: the 3T9 solid crate weighs nearly 2.4 times as much as the 1T5 solid crate.

Lidded plastic crates and component trays

Lidded crates rise in price quickly with capacity, because the mold is larger, the walls are thicker and there is a lid on top. The common range in the ICD Vietnam catalog includes square crates of 15 liters (340 x 260 x 230 mm), 30 liters (450 x 340 x 260 mm), 55 liters (570 x 380 x 375 mm), 90 liters (650 x 460 x 380 mm), 120 liters (730 x 530 x 410 mm) and 220 liters (790 x 610 x 510 mm). When you receive a quotation for a lidded crate, check whether the price covers the full set or lists the crate and the lid separately.

Component trays have the lowest unit price because of their small weight; an A4 tray, for example, weighs only 120 g. An anti-static tray of the same size costs more than a standard one because the resin is blended with conductive additives to reach the required surface resistance; when asking for a price, state the resistance range your production line needs.

Five factors that set the price of a plastic crate

Five factors set the price: weight of plastic, material, crate type, accessories and order quantity; transport cost and tax are added on top. Understanding each one shows you what you are paying for and where you can save without giving up durability.

Size and weight of plastic is the biggest factor. According to the Vietnam Plastics Association, raw material makes up 70 - 80% of the production cost of plastic products, so the bigger the crate and the thicker the wall, the higher the price, and the relationship is not linear because large crates also need larger molds and machines.

Plastic material comes second. Virgin PP or HDPE costs more than recycled plastic, and between PP and HDPE each suits a different environment: PP is stiff and handles heat well; HDPE is tough at low temperatures. The price of resin follows oil prices and imported supply; in early April 2026 the Vietnam Plastics Association said resin prices had risen by tens of percent in a short time as supply from the Middle East fell sharply.

Crate type decides the amount of plastic: a solid crate uses more plastic than an open basket of the same size, and a lidded crate adds the mold for the lid. Accessories such as separate lids, wheels, dividers, label cards and logo printing are all charged extra; wheels in particular are a spare part outside the warranty under ICD Vietnam’s policy, so ask clearly when buying crates on wheels. Order quantity is the last factor: the larger the order, the lower the unit price, especially when you consolidate into fewer models and fewer colors. A custom model that needs a new mold only makes sense when the volume is large enough to spread the mold cost. On transport, ICD Vietnam’s shipping policy charges by type of goods, quantity, weight, size and distance, and announces the fee before the order is confirmed; an order above a minimum value may qualify for free delivery as announced at the time of ordering.

Price comparison between virgin and recycled plastic

Recycled plastic crates cost less to buy, but measured per use, virgin crates are usually more economical for tall stacks, food goods and long circulation.

The simplest method is cost per use: divide the purchase price of one crate by the number of circulation cycles the crate makes before it has to be scrapped. Recycled crates only truly save money when you use them short term, have no industry hygiene requirement and do not need matching colors; otherwise, record your warehouse’s actual turn count and compare, since that figure is more reliable than any claim about lifespan.

How to read a quotation and buy plastic crates in bulk economically

A plastic crate quotation with enough information to compare must state the following; if any item is missing, ask again before you confirm:

• Crate model, external size and internal size.
• Tare weight (grams) and material, PP or HDPE, virgin or blended.
• Color and included accessories (lid, wheels, card, logo printing).
• Unit price by quantity tier and whether VAT is included.
• Transport fee, delivery point and delivery time.
• Warranty period and how a faulty batch is handled.

From experience quoting for B2B customers, I suggest five ways to cut cost without sacrificing quality. One is to consolidate orders: instead of buying in small lots each month, group them by quarter to reach a better price tier. Two is to watch resin prices: the finished-goods price follows the price of imported raw material, so for large projects fix the price and the validity period of the quotation in writing. Three is to choose a standard size such as 610 x 420 mm, since molds and many models already exist, whereas a custom size has to carry extra mold cost.

Four is to drop accessories you do not need: crates that only sit on shelves do not need wheels, and goods that do not need absolute dust protection can do without a lid. Five is to count delivery cost too: one delivery to one point is usually much cheaper than many small deliveries, and nestable crates (such as open baskets) take less room on the truck than lidded crates. When nesting, do not press too tightly, to avoid plastic crates sticking together and becoming hard to separate.

Choosing the industrial plastic crate by need

Choosing the right crate for the goods matters more than choosing the cheapest, because a crate with the wrong function leads to damaged goods or a repurchase. Solid plastic bins are closed, dust-proof and water-proof, suited to components and goods that need protection when stacked. Open plastic baskets are ventilated and drain water, suited to farm produce, seafood and vegetables. Lidded crates close tightly, suited to long storage and long-distance transport. Shallow, divided component trays are used for kanban and for electronics and automotive assembly.

On long-term cost, plastic crates can be circulated many times, while cartons can usually be used only a few times. The initial investment is higher, but the more cycles you run, the lower the cost per use of a plastic crate compared with a carton.

Frequently asked questions

Does the plastic crate price include VAT?

It depends on the supplier, so always ask whether the price includes VAT before you compare. From 1 July 2025 to 31 December 2026, most goods that are normally taxed at 10%, including plastic products not on the exclusion list, are reduced to 8% under Resolution 204/2025/QH15 and Decree 174/2025/ND-CP. ICD Vietnam issues a full VAT invoice.

From 2027, if there is no extension policy, the rate returns to 10%, so a project quotation that runs into next year should state the tax rate applied.

Why does the plastic crate price move over time?

Because PP and HDPE resin are petrochemical products, their price follows crude oil, exchange rates and international supply. According to the Vietnam Plastics Association, about 70% of the raw material for the domestic plastics industry is imported, from markets such as China, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Thailand, so outside swings reach crate prices quite quickly.

How many crates do I need to buy to get a wholesale price?

The unit price falls by quantity tier, and the specific discount is written in the quotation by model, color and delivery point. For project orders such as fitting out a new factory or supplying a distribution chain, send a list of models and quantities so ICD Vietnam can quote separately.

Should I buy used plastic crates to save money?

It depends on the purpose. Used plastic crates cost less than new ones and suit temporary needs or uses where looks do not matter, but check carefully whether the walls are cracked, whether the stacking grooves still fit and whether the base sags.

The price of a 610 x 420 mm crate varies with the height and with open or solid walls, and follows tare weight closely: at ICD Vietnam the 1T9 solid crate weighs 1,750 g and the open crate of the same size 1,300 g, so the solid crate usually costs more. What taxes apply to imported plastic crates?

Plastic crates used to hold and transport goods usually fall under HS code 3923.10.90 and carry import duty under the preferential import tariff issued with Decree 26/2023/ND-CP (goods with a certificate of origin under a free trade agreement may qualify for a special preferential rate), plus VAT. Crates made domestically carry no import duty.
